Well, since I am now a pro-Templar, your attack fails miserably, maleficar.

Can't block blood magic, duh. And since when are you pro-Templar?

O_O. Didn't you read the thread from yesterday?
And yes you can block BM, just ask Evangeline. :P

Before or after she was burned alive by the attack and needed healing magic to survive? :P

And lordy, lordy - did you lose a bet?

It should be noted that she did manage to block it momentarily...
And I suppose you missed the Qunari phase from several pages before...

My mage Hawke was a blood mage. I guess that answers the question :-P

Mmm, I suppose it counts, but I don't consider it a real "block'.

And I suppose you missed the Qunari phase from several pages before...

Unfriended, blocked, reported spam! :P

We wear the mask that grins and lies, that hides our cheeks and shades our eyes...

It has been rather fun switching masks, and trading identities.

You'd be quite surprised. Don't get me wrong, I am pro-mage. Always have been, and always will be. But trading masks has reacquainted me with some of my favorite quotes and teachings of both the Chant and the Qun. Granted, I think some of the followers of the two are batsh*t crazy, but I still find great wisdom in both doctrines nonetheless. IRL, both the Chant and the Qun remind me of Bible quotes that I always enjoyed, particularly some of the Psalms and Proverbs.

Could blood magic spell animations look a little cooler, something kinda like this? I feel spell animations could use some reimagining in general, though.

Isn't that what Grace did to Thrask?

She just kind of levitated him, and then dropped him.

The Chant of Light seems fine, its the Templars and Chantry I have issues with. When your #1 tenet is "Magic is a corrupting influence in the world", I have a problem with you.

I don't know enough about the Qun's stance on conquering and forced conversion to judge its worth, however. They could just be a policies the Qunari adopted and attached to the Qun for legitimacy in their actions.

The Chant's version of that quote makes total sense to me, but I honestly think it's how people choose to interpret that quote that is deal breaker for me. Or perhaps Malcolm Hawke simply said it better, "Magic shall serve that which is best in me, not that which is most base."

Blood magic is like steroids. Using it will make you stronger, but continued use will have detrimental effects. That fact that you can use it to mind control people is something to consider as well.

It has its place, but it should only be used by "certified" mages.

Overall, it should be a forbidden school.

The Chantry version does not make sense to me. It has some rather obvious intent and implications behind it IMO. They had a quote from Andraste on magic, "Magic is meant to serve, and never to rule over him." That was perfect. Just use it. Don't cut it down to "Magic is never meant to rule over man", or twist it even further into, "Magic is a corrupting influence in the world." When the only thing you say about magic in your statement to the world is that it's a corrupting influence in the world, you're sending a very specific message, very all around negative message about it, and its one that allows the Chantry to set the parameters of magic use (culturally if nothing else as their words have impact), and it lets them use the circles to cultivate a private army they keep on a leash with lyrium. Can't get with it.

I would really like to resurrect Andraste just to see what she thinks of the Chantry and the Templar Order of modern Thedas. Granted, Justinia and somewhat Cassandra give me tentative hope in the Chantry as it will undoubtedly be changed by the War.

I want to see simultaneous mage revolutions. One in Tevinter along with the mage revolution in southern Thedas, maybe that helps generate a synthesis of ideas, establish a baseline for what will work for mages in Thedas. The Chantry interpretations of magic are polar opposites its nuts. And if a compromise in tenets is out, which mages get the better outcome, I wonder?

But what would Tevinter magi be rebelling against though? They seem to be very happy with the status quo at the moment.

People will never be pleased.  They'll find some idiotic reason.

I want to see the underclasses rebelling against the mages in Tevinter - that's what I mean.

Even still, I don't know that I would want them too. Just think about it a second. Numbers the underclassed might have, but you have an Imperial Chantry filled with mages, an entire Magisterium, and 7 Circles, the majority of which probably like the status quo. On top of that, many can use blood magic to infiltrate dreams, and there a decent amount of dreamers running around too. A rebellion would have no chance, and be crushed to the ground through blood magic in a heartbeat. They would be slaughtered.

Even though that wasn't Youth's point, I still don't see why they would rebel. They run the show in Tevinter. Short of an extremely nasty power battle for the next Archon or Divine, I don't see why they would start a rebellion.

They did it before when blood magic was practiced freely and not kept hidden, and they won. Its in WoT, I think it was called the Transfiguration period.

I know, but that was in religious fervor after Andraste burned, was it not? I don't know if the people of Tevinter hold that same drive now.

I do think the advent of Andrastianism was the catalyst for broader change in Tevinter society, but it isn't what prompted the purge I don't believe. It came a bit later after the nation's conversion to Andrastiansim, so while Andrastianism was in play, oppression was the root of the Transfiguration period. Oppression seems as bad as ever with the Empire falling apart, at war constantly, near broke, no upward mobility, and all that jazz.

The only way the Tevinters will rebel is if there was some massive imbalance of power or another Andraste like figure came along. But right now the underclass in Tevinter probalyu don't have the will to attempt to overthrow the magisters since many have tried and failed.
