A tool that might end up costing you way more than its worth thus, ultimately, something better used only in desperate situations and generally better avoided at all costs.

Much more rare and unknown about, and no mind control powers.

They can't cast spells like mages. And also, they just trade their pain and blood for greater strength and speed, as well as the psychic aura thing that they can do.SgtSteel91 wrote...

Anything that uses pain, suffering, and death as its power source is inherently evil. On top of that, blood magic, according to the writers, absolutely attracts demons and makes you more susceptible to possession.
So be it. Whatever it takes to maintain freedom.

I think any arguments to be made for its practical use went out the window with World of Thedas.
Although, the example they used with Tirena of the Rock didn't work very well as an argument against it.
what was said in WoT?

There was a story of a guy who used blood magic to save his lover from an incurable disease, at the cost of his own life. I think that is to what they were referring.

Now, Eluvian. You and I both know EXACTLY what they are refering to.

I have viewed World of Thedas only once, and that was several months ago. My memory isn't exactly spot on. Was Tirena the Qunari blood boiler then?Veruin wrote...

I don't have WoT my self, but I'm fairly certain they are referring to the pain and suffering part. I don't see how someone sacrificing themselves would make people reconsider their stance on blood magic.

Yeah, when they mentioned Tirena, I thought they were referring to Crescens and Seraphinian. My bad lol.Veruin wrote...

"The more violent the pain or death used in blood magic, the more powerful a spell becomes"
So it seems to be explicitly powered by Evulz rather than the blood itself. The example of its use I was referring to comes from this quote:
"Some still idolize Tirena of the Rock, who used blood magic against the Qunari during the Steel Age. They say she cut her flesh on the shore of Marnas Pell as the dreadnoughts sailed in, turned her spells against their crews, and boiled the very blood in their veins. A terrifying display, to be sure, but against Qunari? It only made them more determined when they besieged the ports of Carastes."
So the premise here is that they they suffered more heavily at Carestes because Tirena had to go and make the Qunari butthurt, which sounds like a rather cruddy line of reasoning to follow. It'd be more logical to assume that whatever happened at Carestes was going to happen either way, or that they fared poorly because they were unable to replicate Tirena's results.

Remember though, our mages are the best spellcasters in Thedas.

I'll be against blood magic even playing as a mage, and I want the option for my mage to look at any mage using blood magic, look at them like they're fools, and then facepalm at them whenever he can at how stupid they were to use it.
Its a useful school of magic and anyone not using is stupid and the main reason all southern based mages are weak and fail at life.
