He's a white-haired DMC Dante/Final Fantasy lovechild twink with a giant anime sword and a generic anime personality.

His voice actor is great though.

What he said.

I didn't hate the character. He just seemed really out of place in Dragon Age, like a character that got lost on his way to Final Fantasy 27.

Or, maybe its more accurate to say that he felt really out of place in the world that had been introduced in DA:O. I guess he was right at home in DA2. And that was part of the reason why I didn't care for that game.

Final Fantasy 27, you say?

I don't hate him. I'm not a huge fan of his design though, I think he looks a bit out of place in compared the rest of the characters designs. But maybe that was the intent....

Both he and post-justice Anders are equally annoying.

I found Anders more sympathetic because he didn't look at Templars the way Fenris saw Mages. Also, atleast Anders was still in the oppression and wanted to do something about it to benifit all mages. Fenris was already free and just wanted to moan, groan, and oppress others due to ignorant and paranoria.

I hate all of them because they bore me.

I agree with you about anders but he still got annoying after a while.

I understand. Anders was just my preference. In terms of overall character (and love interest) they're equally terrible.

Wow.

So...what were you guys expecting from an escaped slave? Orana as a companion perhaps?

At least Square Enix owns up to it, since DE:HR was their game as well. So that's them saying, "Yeah, we know we're milking the franchise. But hey, as long as we have stories why fix what isn't broken?"

The fact he was an esceped slave was the only reason I tolerated him for the first two Acts. Once we got to the Last Straw, and he still didn't change, I was done with him and very glad when I had Marian kill him.

Outside of him being anti-mage, I don't see why there's a lot of reason to hate him. Appearance withstanding, I've honestly seen worse.

Because the only three words he knows are mage, master and slave.

Gets reeeeeeeally tired after a while.

Not for 3 Acts, and still acting the same

Er he did change. He believes hat not ALL mages are weak  and will fall prey to their baser instincts. It is just that in Kirkwall the average mage he runs into _IS_ one that jumps at blood magic or is an abomination.

I find it amusing that people are quick to ignore Fenris' experience but for some reason, everything that comes out of Ander's mouth is taken as 100% truth.

NO. His hatred has nothing to do with Kirkwall, he's still acts like he's in the Imperium. So after SIX YEARS of being protected by mages, all the change he's gone through is "not ALL mages are weak  and will fall prey to their baser instincts"? And yet he'll still side with Meridith to kill every mage including MY SISTER?!

EDIT:

I find it amusing that people are quick to ignore Fenris' experience but for some reason, everything that comes out of Ander's mouth is taken as 100% truth.

Please explain.

Changing someones prejudice takes time for me that was realistic but, if you befriend him as a mage he does admit that there are good mages even good magisters but there are too many bad ones

I didn't mind him, but he did feel out of place because of the already mentioned anime character reasons.

My Hawke just left him in his spiderweb filled house and occasionally dropped by to have a drink with him.

They're all real reasons and none of them are. If a character rubs you the wrong way you'll find a real reason to hate it.
