So, have been idly thinking about Mass Effect for quite a while now (killing time till ME2 drops).  However, it wasn't until recently that I had an epiphany.  Has anyone here read the Heritage/Legacy/Inheritance Trilogies by Ian Douglas (pseudonym).

Don't really want to spoil these series if you haven't read them, but if you like Mass Effect they may be up your alley :)

I'm not trying to start a "x ripped of y" discussion.  More a "has anyone else read these books and noticed this connection" discussion.

I really like the setup of both universes (and they are both unique in their own excellent ways).  I would be interested to know if anyone on Bioware's writing staff read (and was subsequently inspired by) these books.

Gotta love both these series' answer to the "Fermi Paradox." :)

Just a random thought to kill time till the 26th!

Absolutely.  In fact, (and yes...I know this topic was posted two months ago) I did a forum search to see if anyone else had made the same connection and this is the only post that popped up.

I discovered Ian Douglas shortly after ME2 was released, and while both the game and his books contain elements of "hard" sci-fi that have been bandied about for years, there are too many similarities (IMHO) to be simply accidental.  Almost to the point that I wonder if Mr. Douglas (not his real name BTW) collaborated with the game developers.

Regardles, as the OP mentioned, if you like ME2 then you'll love the fiction of Ian Douglas.  I even went out and bought my father the first book in his latest trilogy after reading it as an e-book because I knew how much he would enjoy it.

Good stuff.  I particuarly love the conclusion of the third book in the Legacy trilogy "Star Marines".
