Where do you assume the Qunari would get this gold from? They were shipwrecked. And making large public statements like that would PROBABLY not ahve been favorable for the Qunari, since that would ahve made it all the easier for their enemies to find out that the Tome was still out of the QUnari's possession.

The Viscount and assorted nobles.

What reason does the Arishok have to believe that the criminal underworld would keep the book a secret? It was being sold to Tevinter when they finally caught up to it.

And as Mother Petrice showed, who in the world would have gladly donated to the Qunari cause. Hell, most of the nobles were probably wondering if this merely part of an invasion force.

Everyone who wants them out of Kirkwall. The same people who gave them a compound to live in for half a decade. One of the three leaders of the Qunari has to have some political leverage, or at least the ability to pretend he has political leverage.

You distrust the words of the Viscount who gave them the compound of course because....... What exactly are you basing your statement on? Yes, the Qunari probably APPEARED threatening, but they DID NOT threaten anyone. If you cannot see the difference, then god forbid you ever enter politics.

Now now, play the ball not the man.

I'm basing the statement on the fact a large armed military force from a society with a lot of previous form for death and destruction plonked themselves on his doorstep. At that point I'd say the appearance of threat is pretty much equivalent to a threat. I think you'd need a very good barrister to sell anything else to the jury.

They then appear to sit around sponging off the city for several years - I say this on the basis that they probably didn't have much in the way of resources and didn't seem to be doing much of a day job that was going to bring in a regular wage. Parasite.

@ianvillain: the qunari didn't release the chemicals. An elf did it. They allowed it.
As for recruits, he didn't start a propaganda. It's not his fault if people were still drawn to the Qun. He had the duty to accept the converts.

The Qunari still made available the chemical weapons in the first place. Even as a decoy for gunpowder, it was reckless.

Yeah. Caesar's death sparked the creation of the Second Triumvirate which eliminated all those who opposed Caesar's dream, then the three began to infight and broke up, Agustus(Octavian at the time) got the support of the remaining senators who supported Caesar's goal and eliminated Antony and was crowned Rome's first Emperor.

He wasn't actually crowned emperor. He assume the powers of other offices like proconsolatum(to rule the provincies) and tribunus (to vetoed the decisions of the Senate and the other offices). He was named 'princeps senatus'. The Roman emperors (at least the first ones) were called princeps, not emperors.

That is true. Only after Tiberius did the leaders of the Roman Empre call themselves Emperor. Emperor comes from the term imperator, the leader of the military. Eventually they simply consildate the other titles the ruler had, from Princeps Senatus to Pontifex Maximus, under the term and eventually was changed to Emperor when latin texts were turned into English.

It's not their fault if people would try to steal something from them. I agree that they could've make something else, but they probably want to punish those who tried to steal something from them. The gaat-lok's secret is considered very important in the Qun.

But they DIDN'T make any demands. They didn't make any requests. Whatever they had was GIVEN to them, and they accepted.
A parasite would imply that they TAKE, which we know tehy didn't so again your comparison is inaccurate or downright dishonest.
The Qunari PROBABLY lived off of whatever few supplies they could salvage from the shipwreck, and through the donations of sympathizers. And given that probably neither of these wereplenty, the Qunari are lucky that tehy can live for over 30 days without food or water.

@eluvianix: good to know :).
@LDS Darth Revan: I didn't remember exactly when happened, but you're right. August did all those things to slowly change the system, for avoiding Caesar's fate.

Maybe they could of done something radical and informed the City Guard about thieves who are trying to steal highly dangerous explosives from them.

The Arishok keeps taking and giving nothing back and when the city finally asks him to do something for them he turns around and slaughters people.

You both seem pretty humorless at this point.  Now the rogues of the world, we know where the humor is at.

<--plays mainly rogues in RPGs.

I have to say, I hate the Mage-Templar war, mainly because of what it did to the fanbase.  It divided us.  It was "The Wardens vs the Darkspawn" and that was fine.  There was some disagreements, but we were all concrete on who the "Big Bad" was.  Now this stupid war has caused us all to be divided into "robes" and "skirts."

To Hades with both, at this point.  When it comes time for my Inquisitor, I am not for the mages.  I am not for the Templars.  I'm for Thedas.  This conflict only has gotten in the way of the true goal: Saving the world from rips in the Veil.

Fair enough. I will concede to you on the humorous rogues. Isabela, I feel, is the trump card for you rogues. She certainly made me laugh.
However, how in the world do you plan on closing the Veil without the help of either magic or Templars?
