Recylced characters from the previous games. DA2's squad was essentially the best of the obscure DAO characters. I don't really want to see that. If the writers bring in new characters, then they have a clean slate to work with and a bunch of possibilities at their disposal.

cassandra and Varic are aleast 2 characters that are going to be with us the *whole time so part of your wish is gone. We may end up seeing a Hawke sibbling GW, or mage templar. (cameo i bet, unless going to allow them to be a LI for the Inquistor)

so part of your wish is already gone.

* = what I mean by whole time as in a compaonio that unless under extreme dislike will leave you., tho I think a varric would stick around outside of the combat just for the story.

You know that at least 2 out of 9 (or so) are returning characters, right? If Cullen is added, you're getting dangerously close to being disappointed.

I'm right there with you but it already seems like it's heading towards a cameo filled cheese-fest. Varric, Cassandra, Vivienne are all pre existing characters who are party members and Cullen was rumored as well. Then you have Morrigan who will be important and Leliana who will probably also be important, Sten (turned Arishok) is rumored to be in it, and there will probably be enough short cameos or quests filled with regurgitated one liners (swooping is bad, who iz ziz MAN TeaGAN?! Etc...) to make your head spin if DA 2 and ME3 are anything to go by.

I really wouldn't consider that most of the cast. About half of the DA2 cast are characters from DAO. If Bioware can keep it under that, then I'll be happy.

She's a comic character isn't she?

Someone told me she was from the books/comics but I don't read them so I'll defer to you on that.

2 (or even 3 and 4) out of 9 is/are not "most" of anything.

And Cassandra has never been a companion before, much like Isabela prior to DA2.

But sure, I'm disappointed that Varric is returning. He's a really shallow character.

All I mean is that we already know that there are some coming back, it's a small cast, and we know that Bioware likes returning characters.  So you might be disappointed.

I agree with this 100%. I hope to god the rest of our companions are brand new characters.

Though she wasn't a party member, it doesn't seem sensible to take one pre-existing character from a situation and put them into the next game just because. It would make more sense, to me, to just create new characters, so the fans won't have pre-built expectations of characters.

"Why does Isabela look so different?"
"Why does Merrill act so different?"
"What is WRONG with Anders?!"

Yeah, I know what you're saying. It wouldn't really be a game breaker for me; I would just be disappointed. Really, it's just a small request from a fan. If they feel that they need to bring back old characters, then that's what they'll do.

So far there is way too high a percentage of returning characters for my liking and that's only what's confirmed so far. We know there will be more and in the past the returning characters have either completely changed personalities, or become one dimensional caricatures of themselves for cheap laughs. I hate that crap and I don't want there to be so much of it that it chokes out everything else and that's the vibe I'm getting.

How about we play the game first before judging it?

Old characters provide a connection to the games.

I don't feel that it's necessary to build a bridge between games. Unless it's a direct sequel to the events of the previous game, a new game should really have it's own identity, in my eyes.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I agree with you 100%.  New PC = New companions if you ask me... I'd rather not have any returning characters.  Cassandra is fine, since, as MasterScribe mentioned, she's never traveled with us or interacted with our PCs in any way.

I think for the reason behind returning characters in DA2 was to give a sense of familiarity even though we were in a different country.

Look, all we've seen so far is one demo. In the case of Cassandra, the most amount of character development that she has had was a movie set 18 years prior to DAI and some cutscenes in one game.
