My last time on Haestrom was the first time I did not use the paragon interrupt to get Kal Reegar to stand down. It just didn't fit with Tabitha's psyche which puts the mission ahead of personal feelings. I was sure this was going to get him killed but in the end he made it. So what is the trigger that gets him killed? A timer? The amount of damage you do to the Collosus? Where Shepard is located on the battlefield?

Anyway, it was interesting hearing his battle dialogue and seeing the added explosions (though I don't think he was actually damaging the Collosus).

I haven't done that interrupt in a long time. I'm not sure anything in particular triggers it except a conventional defeat and/or getting targetted too much. I could be wrong. All I know is that I push through the right side, towards the sniper perch, and can take out the Colossus fairly easily. I usually have Garrus and Jack, and an Arc Projector. I play on hardcore or insanity, so it shouldn't be too difficult otherwise.

Basically I think if you go to the right as Street mentioned not only do you get a nice vantage point, but all enemies have line of sight on you. As long as you keep all enemies distracted Reegar is fine, at least that's my reasoning.

Someone told me a fair while back that if you don't use the interrupt and then take too long to kill the collosus that Reegar will die.
The last 2 ME2 playthroughs I haven't used the interrupt and have gone up the left side of the area towards the collosus and Reegar was fine.

I think as long as you aggro most, if not all, enemies there to mostly concentrate their fire on you, Reegar could last a long time.
If you hide too much, then the enemy (and the Colosus ) will try to fire on that more exposed target, the unfortunate Reegar.

It actually took me quite long to win that battle, all of them (Collosus included) were pretty much after me.
Reegar's rockets actually do substantial damage to the Colosi, and he survived this long fight. Difficult fight for me though.

I think the old theory was that there was a timer. But I guess with most everyone knowing how to blitz this fight, the timer is not relevant anymore...

Or it could be an aggro thing.

Why didn't I see this earlier?

Judging from my previous playthroughs there is no timer there. (once Reegar got killed no 40 seconds after the end of the dialogue)
AFAIK he only can be killed by the Colossus, which targets him after loosing sight of Shepard for too long.

On a site note: Does that fight vary greatly between different tries for anyone else?
Sometimes i can run nearly all the way to the Colossus in the time it takes to spawn the next geth wave, other-times I'm not even detached from cover and they are on me again...
(independent from class or route i take)

Since I always take the same route I have not really ever seen a difference. I take the right side sniper perch. First, kill off the Geth in the center, then make my way down the sniper perch until the Destroyer and friends show up, kill them, then on to the medi-gel/ammo dump. I think something like 3 geth will continuously spawn at this point until you kill the Collosus.

Hmm, am I the only one who saves up the heavy weapon ammo, and use the Cain? Nice and easy, kill most of the synthetic sods in one hit!

From the masseffect wiki:

If you let Reegar take the Colossus' shield down to the point where it initiates self-repair, then after coming back online the Colossus will fire on Reegar and kill him. Reegar will comment that he has drawn the Colossus' attention just before he dies.

i think this is false.
In my current playthough, the Colossus self repaired ... twice.
Reegar still survived.

The way the battle went, Reegar just keep pounding the thing with his rockets, while I press in closer and keep shooting at it too, as well as shooting every other enemy on map. (I play Claymore-Soldier , so I have to press in close. So all the enemies all tried to kill me, Colossus was especially mad at me, I was too close to death several times and my squadmates died, but Collosus went down and both me and Reegar survived.

Definitely I think it's Aggro play.

... i can't recall whether or not Reegar said that though, was too busy dodging bullets ><
edit: I pressed in from Left path, btw.
