I would like to see some dragons as allies or at least be able to converse with them as part of the storyline.

Well, Flemeth is a dragon sometimes. She sort of works as an ally.

Yeah, in Dragon Age the actual dragons can't talk--they are smart for animals, but still just animals. So this request is along the lines of going to Africa and saying "Why are all the lions dangerous? Can't I have a chat with them?" They're animals. They don't chat. They will, however, happily try to eat you if you let your guard down.

Dragons are animals, just like any other. Perhaps there is some powerful magic connected to them, but IIRC, they're no smarter than Dolphins.

I like that the dragons are predatory "monsters".
The whole "ancient, wise" dragons thing seem overused to me..

Ugh, I for one do not want another Paarthunax if that's what is being suggested.

You raise a good point. In D&D there were good dragons and most dragons, good or evil, could talk. I doubt that will happen in DA, though. It seems that dragons are stuck being monsters.

I think this is relevant.

Also, I don't think there needs to be any "good" dragons.

I liked Paarthunax personally, thought it was sort of dumb for Beth to make him killable.

Which Skyrim dragon do you want him to be like? Paarthurnax? Odahviing?

Maybe an undead dragon like Durnehviir? Image IPB

At this point, Dragons that are little more than intelligent animals (albeit gargantuan, powerful animals) are less common than the ancient, wise Dragons we see frequently. I'd personally be happy if Dragon Age stuck to it's guns and kept the Dragons as predatory monsters.

Flemeth must take human form to speak but in dragon form she is a purely destructive force.

In DA:O Blue Wardens once rode griffons which is half dragon and half lion. Now that there will be creatures that can be ridden will they perhaps make a comeback? Or perhaps strike a bargain with a dragon to travel to a distant or otherwise inaccessible area.

1. What are Blue Wardens? A hockey team? :P

2. Griffons are not part dragon.

3. This is all sounding exactly like Skyrim. I'm not sure I want that.

None of the above? Skyrim actually did the impossible and made dragons boring. Dragons really should be more of an event rather than something annoying you need to get rid of so you can go shopping.

ermm i think the dragons in Dragon age are infact magical and intelligent... after all what are the old gods? they are old dragons that are even venerated.. and they can even bless you and they can even trick you like what happened to the bloodmage that went to the dark/golden city...
they might not speak.. but the oldest ones probably can comunicate to others via... telepathy are something like that...

What about a Dragon like Smaug? He was Evil and could talk.

No talking animals. This is one of the underlying rules for the Dragon Age universe, and it includes dragons. Closest we've come to breaking that rule is the desire demon illusion in the Shale adventure (which was technically a talking cat), but it's never going to be a thing otherwise.

So, yes, all dragons must be monsters.

Eh, fair enough.
