question regarding Armor...loreishness

Also....reading the wiki page on Cerberus Spirit Armor and stuff, it says that the armor was basically reversed engineered from captured suits from phantoms and stuff. But because Cerberus had its mitts deep in the Alliance (and vice versa) would that mean the armor was available sooner....errrrr what i mean to say is...would the armor worn by Slayers and Shadows (and alt armor for Liara and Ashley) been available prior to the Reaper Invasion? atleast for spec ops troops....
thanks in advance

As for your second question, again, there's no definitive answer I know of in the lore, but I would say probably not. Given that it was "reverse-engineered", I'd be inclined to think that it was developed by Cerberus independently from the alliance.
Regardless of how you or I interpret it, the lore doesn't provide very conclusive answers to these questions.

It's also possible Shep's N7 suit was a Cerberus custom, or a design they nicked from the Alliance. But in ME2 and 3 you still see some of the same types of armour you had in ME1, so evidently the N7 suit got a change up for some reason.

With regards to your first question, if by "heavier looking armor" you mean the armor Shepard wears, the answer isn't really clear. We never really see any other alliance units wearing it (in fact, the NPC alliance units in ME2 are all wearing armors from ME1), so one could infer it's largely a Cerberus development. It is worth noting that the N7's did have a heavy armor in ME1.

i meant Shepard's default armor in ME2...all the armor looks heavier than even ME1 heavy armor.
And yeah....a lot of NPCs in ME2 and 3 wear the armor from ME1. Ashley wore her ME1 armor in ME2. the mercs wore ME1 stuff. the gunnery chief and recruits chatting about Newton's law on the Citadel still wearing ME1 armor.
perhaps the upgrades happened in between 1 and 2...assigned to deploying/forward assigned units or something?

The armor Shepard wears in ME1 is the general, run of the mill armor operatives tend to wear. It's ubiquitous. We see it in ME2 on countless mercenaries. We also see a slightly updated version in ME3 (as seen here). It's like the AR-15 of ME Universe armors: it's well made, reliable, and it may come in many variations. Shepard is still a relative nobody on the galactic scale in ME1. His mission isn't necessarily special. Jondum Bau and other well known, highly accomplished Spectres probably got the experimental and highly top secret equipment.
In ME2 and 3, Shepard is well established as an icon and symbol of military proficiency. From what we know of Cerberus and their massive undertaking in equipping Shepard with the best of the best in all respects, it's probably safe to assume that his armor was a highly experimental, custom made model. It's modular, which is never seen outside of his own equipment. The N7 stamp and stripe are probably put there by Cerberus to make him feel more comfortable. While he's going all over the galaxy in this armor, other mercs and weapons companies take notice. Research begins.
Of course, 6 months isn't any proper span of time to develop, test, and release a product. With the dire straits of the galaxy in 3, however, you end up being supplied with highly top secret, experimental pieces made by these arms companies to aid you in your efforts. This also explains why there is still no one else equipped with these types of armors. I think that other high ranking N7s are given some of this armor as well (as we see in multiplayer).
