'Hot Pursuit' was literally NFS 6. NFS 5 was 'Porsche'. I started with NFS 4 and it was much better than NFS 3 that my cousin had.

Not exactly.

So Porsche came out before a game that came out before it? Seems legit.

We're talking about NFS, and how Criterion games wrenched the franchise from Black Box, p*ssed on it and sh*t in its house, then left for greener pastures, leaving us with the stink of their remains: a Burnout infested shell of its former self.

So sort of what EA did to Bioware?

ME was an attempt to do their own space IP based on KoTOR, like DA:O was an attempt to do a fantasy IP based on BG. Fans have a kind of unholy worship for BG2 that Bioware really doesn't seem to share. And if we actually compare DA:O to BG2 or KoTOR, it's way more like KoTOR and really unlike BG2.

I think the italed is more of a general phenomenon, though BG2 is the most acute case.

The same thing happened with DA:O and ME1, too, but IMO that's more related to the sequel-itis. There are a fair number of people who did not like BG to BG2. It's just that they left at that point (well, except for Sylvius). Or they went to RPG Codex. I'm pretty sure that place doesn't really rank BG2 all that high either - it's not an 80s Gold Box game, after all.

well that link I posted was about ea.

rotfl.

Some people chafe under the control of others and just want to be on their own.

That may explain the Need for speed people leaving, Mr M and Mr Z leaving although they would deny it. Drew K retiring and other stuff. like that..

I'd say that other developers tend to do better in certain aspects compared to Bioware, but Bioware usually always holds it own in terms of their characters that they're able to portray, regardless of them fitting stereotypes or cliques in the common stories that unfold throughout their games.

Need for Speed sucked well before Criterion got their hands on it. That franchise has been going downhill for several years.

I think it's biggest problem is that Need for Speed doesn't have an identity. EA doesn't know if they want it to be an arcade racing game or a racing simulation.

Carbon was the last great NFS imo.

Well Human Revolution did have a Mass Effect-esque dialogue tree.

Sometimes it's blatantly ripped off such as in Darksiders II or The Bureau: "I can't believe it's not Mass Effect" X-Com Declassified.

Carbon was atrocious. The conquest mechanic was completely nonsensical and felt painfully forced in.

Need for Speed was an attempt at a racing simulation?

Supposedly.

It worked about as well as Ace Combat: Assault Horizon being a Fighter Jet simulation.

Not to say that was a terrible game. It was just a really bad sim.

Something said in my mind "Hot Pursuit 2, Hot Pursuit 2..." but I didn't listen. So it was right about NFS 6.

And the last great NFS is 2010 Hot Pursuit.

I bought Rivals for the open world + customization. I got a shallow system on both areas

I bought Mass Effect for the emotionally engaging story + blue. I got both.
