See now this is what I miss about pre-steam days. I still have my Baldur's gate, Fallout 1 & 2, Civ 1-4, NWN 1, etc. disks and can reinstall them and replay them to my hearts content (and all of my fan mods backed up on DVDs or an external drive). Civ 5? Nope. No disk for me. pout.

I didn't like Fallout 2 as much as Fallout 1. I hold Fallout 1 with reverence. The Original Vault Dweller (and the original Dogmeat) is (are) the damn boss.
And MY Dogmeat didn't die in the Military Base force field, contradictory to canon. I had a lot of stimpacks to keep him alive.
.223 custom pistol Targeted Shot to the eyes with over 100% Small Arms skill FTW.

I've never had this issue before, so I wonder if it's related to the servers being down, like maybe they're up, but messed up.

never tried the first two Fallouts. Played Fallout 3, had a lot of fun, I bought New Vegas on steam but haven't downloaded it yet.
Sorry, man, no. As much as I liked Fallout 3, it's NOTHING compared to Fallout 1.

The Fallout 1 glitch wasn't universal... A lot of XP players made it past that one. I have two copies of both one and two and I never could but it's the only thing I ran into issues with. I still want to visit the parallel universe wehre the original Fallout 3 was actually released (you know, the once that was 95% complete when it was canceled?).

Damn Ian killed Dogmeat in a burst-fire in one occasion. Idiot. Thank goodness for Load Saved Game.

Oh they know I never would. Anyone who's heard me on mic knows I say it in that stupid sing song voice that means "I love you kitty, come let me snorgle your belly while I bleed out and watch Ari clutch this wave":
I completely took that out of context for the fun of it...if you play with Ari a lot then I might get the chance to play with you soon.

EDIT: Yes! We're back. I think I'll stick to a few silver matches until I know it's going to stay up for a bit though.

Debatable.
If someone likes FPSes more, Fallout 3 and New Vegas will suit them better.
If someone likes the more older style RPGs like Baldurs gate and the like more then F1, 2 and tactics will suit them better.
It's a pretty big shift in sub genre from 2 to 3. New Vegas is a bit more faithful to the older Fallouts when it comes to story and characters though. Unfortunately it's a bit more unstable than Fallout 3 and by bit I mean crash every 2 hours and for F3 there are a lot more stability enhancing mods than for FNV. I did find a script extender plugin that should fix a lot of the crash issues for FNV but I haven't checked it in a while.
I've tried to get into the older style RPGs like Baldurs gate (I own 1 and 2 and all the expansions), Ultima 4 which I got through GOG and Fallout 1,2 and Tactics which I also got through GOG. Just can't get into them at all. The camera that's on the top just chaps my hide and takes me out of the experience. First person view seems a lot more immersive. 3rd person works aswell. But dynamic top up view? Nope. Breaks all immersion right out and immersion is why I play a lot of what Bethesda pumps out.
So TLDR Fallout 3 and NV are designed to a completely different audience than F 1,2 and tactics from my POV.
