I know fallout 1 had some really odd glitches on XP (the quest where you returned to Vault 13 could not be completed for many). I haven't tried it on Win 7. If only I could get Starcraft 1 to run properly on Win 7 (I've tried every registry hack I can find and a few I shouldn't have tried but no joy). Hell, I can een get Dungeon Keeper 1 AND 2 to run on Win 7 but not Starcraft.

See now this is what I miss about pre-steam days. I still have my Baldur's gate, Fallout 1 & 2, Civ 1-4, NWN 1, etc. disks and can reinstall them and replay them to my hearts content (and all of my fan mods backed up on DVDs or an external drive). Civ 5? Nope. No disk for me. pout.

Let's hope it's up by morning, cause the only thing I have to look forward to is firing up the snow blower and cleaning off the cars for work.

Dude, I didn't know that. That sucks. Only big glitch I know is that in Fallout 2, when you get a car, you can drive it to different locations, but the "trunk" (with all your stuff you put in there) gets left behind... somewhere. But didn't that get patched?

I didn't like Fallout 2 as much as Fallout 1.  I hold Fallout 1 with reverence.  The Original Vault Dweller (and the original Dogmeat) is (are) the damn boss.

And MY Dogmeat didn't die in the Military Base force field, contradictory to canon.  I had a lot of stimpacks to keep him alive.

.223 custom pistol Targeted Shot to the eyes with over 100% Small Arms skill FTW.

I'm having a weird issue. The servers are back up on 360, but now I'm sitting in a lobby waiting for people to join, and I keep hearing the sound of people entering the lobby, but there's no one there, but when I ready up, it says waiting on three others, as if there are other players in there with me.

I've never had this issue before, so I wonder if it's related to the servers being down, like maybe they're up, but messed up.

never tried the first two Fallouts. Played Fallout 3, had a lot of fun, I bought New Vegas on steam but haven't downloaded it yet.

Sorry, man, no.  As much as I liked Fallout 3, it's NOTHING compared to Fallout 1.

My DOgmeat made it out too. I'm way too much of an animal nut to leave him behind. Doesn't stop me from threatening to eat my cats when they hop in front of the TV while in the middle of a collectors match though.

The Fallout 1 glitch wasn't universal... A lot of XP players made it past that one. I have two copies of both one and two and I never could but it's the only thing I ran into issues with. I still want to visit the parallel universe wehre the original Fallout 3 was actually released (you know, the once that was 95% complete when it was canceled?).

Oh, hell yeah! I had the one-of .223 pistol and the one-of Turbo Plasma Rifle. Plus Dogmeat. Granted, Dogmeat is the ONE NPC that keeps you alive from start to mid-game, afterwhich, you do more babysitting him (specially against Deathclaws) than he does damage, but still, Dogmeat is the #1 NPC you're inclined to look after.

Damn Ian killed Dogmeat in a burst-fire in one occasion.  Idiot.  Thank goodness for Load Saved Game.

Oh they know I never would. Anyone who's heard me on mic knows I say it in that stupid sing song voice that means "I love you kitty, come let me snorgle your belly while I bleed out and watch Ari clutch this wave":

would I need an emulator to run Fallout 1 and do they even still sell it?

I've seen old copies on ebay.  It was made for Win98 and ran pretty well on XP (excepting the weird glitch I noted which was really just a flavor mission more than anything else).  If you've got a machine you can install XP on you should be fine.  I don't see why you'd need an emulator.  I've had this one article bookmarked for a while in case I ever get around to a replay.

I know I saw some posts in the steam forums about it as well.

The servers appear to be down again on 360. They went back up and I had the problem I described a few posts back, then I played part of a match, hoping people would join in progress, but no one did, so I just let the match wipe, and now I try again and it's down again.

So the Steam issue is definitely not related.     Derp was congratualting the group responsible on their twitter feed according to an article I read on the EA server issue.  Of course all of the news is being updated as we speak so it's a bit like following a wikipedia article about a country in the middle of a natural disaster at the moment.

I completely took that out of context for the fun of it...if you play with Ari a lot then I might get the chance to play with you soon. :D

I've only played a couple of games with Ari. I wish I could play more because I always learn something from watching her. I took an 8 month break and only came back to the game recently (wonky internet connection) so I'm sort of behind where I should be as far as moving up in difficulties and researching all of the headknowledge everyone came up with after the last of the in game updates.

EDIT:  Yes!  We're back.  I think I'll stick to a few silver matches until I know it's going to stay up for a bit though.

Debatable.

If someone likes FPSes more, Fallout 3 and New Vegas will suit them better.

If someone likes the more older style RPGs like Baldurs gate and the like more then F1, 2 and tactics will suit them better.

It's a pretty big shift in sub genre from 2 to 3. New Vegas is a bit more faithful to the older Fallouts when it comes to story and characters though. Unfortunately it's a bit more unstable than Fallout 3 and by bit I mean crash every 2 hours and for F3 there are a lot more stability enhancing mods than for FNV. I did find a script extender plugin that should fix a lot of the crash issues for FNV but I haven't checked it in a while.

I've tried to get into the older style RPGs like Baldurs gate (I own 1 and 2 and all the expansions), Ultima 4 which I got through GOG and Fallout 1,2 and Tactics which I also got through GOG. Just can't get into them at all. The camera that's on the top just chaps my hide and takes me out of the experience. First person view seems a lot more immersive. 3rd person works aswell. But dynamic top up view? Nope. Breaks all immersion right out and immersion is why I play a lot of what Bethesda pumps out.

So TLDR Fallout 3 and NV are designed to a completely different audience than F 1,2 and tactics from my POV.

For those that can't play single player under these or similar circumstances disconnect your Xbox from the internet, should work for PC too.
