warrior. nothing feels better than beating the biggest baddie with only your physical might. no deception, stealth or magic; just a man vs god-like force.

I prefer mages because they are more versatile in role and power.

All of them really. In fact when I go to finally play DAI, I plan to play as a different class for all 3 games. I don't want there being some pattern in my canon where the strongest person in the game (you) is always the same class. Sets a bad precedent. I think I'll do mage in DAI, so that means warrior and rogue for the first 2 games.

Don't you mean classes? I thought Archetypes were like protagonist, Antagonist. The cynical group member..Tropes and such.

Rogue/warrior/mage is the class related trope.

A magicky-rogue if possible. Usually mage in DAO though, since we can't hybridise classes.

For my first plays, it's been rogues. Since about NWN 1. I had always played rogues in D&D and when it came to NWN, I didn't like the rogue companion.

Origins--(Dwarven)Dual wielding rogue
DA2--Dual wielding rogue

These days I'm really liking archery, so it'll probably be an archery rogue for DA:I. I'll be messing around with mages though.  I found them pretty dull to play in Origins, even as an Arcane Warrior.  However, I loved the mage combat style of DA2 and from the demo footage I've seen, mages in Inquisition look like a kick in the pants as well. :D

Basically yeah. And that almost every class system springs from the warrior/mage/rogue archetype in some way.

I like to (role)play glass cannon, high-risk-high-reward characters/classes/archetypes that are able to deal a large amount of spike damage in short amount of time, so it's typically Rogues, Assassins, Two Handed warriors, Vanguards, etc. Face the enemies directly and destroy them before they can blink.

Of course, this kind of playstyle is highly dependent on crowd control and AoE support, which I leave to my party member mages, archers and/or tanks.

You know, I actually kinda stick to that. My warrior Hawke's in DA2 are always aggressive and blunt characters, my rogue Hawke's are always sarcastic and charming characters, and my mage Hawke's are always friendly and diplomatic characters.

Those stereotypes are one of the main reasons I can't play warriors. The whole "GRRR! RAWR! I'M A MAN FEAR MY CHESTHAIR!" association I've made make them extremely unappealing. Of course it's just a lack of imagination on my part. Though from what I've seen from the responses in this thread it's not an uncommon association.

 Male rogues and mages can be overly masculine and have chest hair too...

~sigh~ Of course they can. This is just a personal, subjective association I have made specifically tied to warriors. And chest hair doesn't have anything to do with anything I was making a funny because chest hair is usually associated with masculinity.

I'll play whatever, really, and mix it up when I feel like. My Warden was a kind of weird Rogue who rather than stealth and backstabbing was actually rather tanky, even sporting some heavy armour by Awakening.

Yeah well my last warrior in DAO was a girl who was very friendly and helpful to everyone she met. She was a bit of a tomboy, but definitely not masculine. My Hawke's may stick to the archetypes you dislike, but that is by my choice. There's nothing stopping anyone from making a super friendly and understand warrior.

I'm gonna model my first DAI warrior after Woody Allen. The dude isn't masculine in the least. :D

My first playthrough is traditionally always a male human warrior. I consider that the "baseline experience" as it were.

On repeat sessions I'll go for the other classes, races and genders to mix it up. The prospect of a female Qunari mage is tempting second time around.

Mage.

I always play as a mage. I think it is just me. I am an academic scholar in real life and the closest that equates to in fantasy games is magic...

Plus I am an INTJ...I don't know why but most INTJ I know who play games are Mages...Plus there's Gandalf..who is a mage & an INTJ...

Warrior. The only time I played a Mage/Wizard is in Dragon Age Origins. Mages don't appeal to me that much
