I can find something I like in all. I tend to favor the role of a dashing rogue though. Dragon Age has very cool lore in its magic users though... which I feel carries it farther than the actual gameplay.
Which archetype do you prefer to play in DA? (warrior / rogue / mage)

In origins, rogue, there was nothing better than my warden, leliana and zevran all as rangers with summon spider, tearing s**t up, with wynne as healer. In 2, although I preferred mage i'd usually play one of the others as I prefer Bethany to carver.

Warrior.
Because i took up the sword back in university and there is just something almost artistic in mastering the ancient tool of warfare some may consider it primitive, merely a pointy stick of metal. But i view it as merely an extension of a person's arm if it is mastered.
Furthermore well equiped and trained warriors are more then capable of combating either of the two classes, After all Templars are warriors and they seem to be capable enough dealing with your average mage, and Seekers are your above average warriors and they seem to be capable of combating just about anything.
DA is filled with Gray Warden Rogues, and Powerful mages but the Warrior class just seems to have a calling to it for attracting people who have nothing innately strong about them being able to fight toe toe with what some people consider "superior" mages and win.

I play all of them, but my order of preference (both games) is Mage - Rogue - Warrior.
Having said that, I tend to start any rpg as the warrior-equivalent, it's often the simplest way to get to terms with game mechanics.

In DA: O, I tend to favor warrior, but that is partially because I favor dwarves and don't have a mage option. My second is healer spec mage. I've played through DA: O about a dozen times and I've had 1 human mage, 1 human noble warrior, 1 dwarf commoner rogue, and the rest are dwarf warriors (mostly noble, but a few commoner).
In DA 2, I prefer mage. I think that it makes for a better story, given the mage/templar conflict plus I like the Hawke/Carver relationship way better than the Hawke/Bethany one (which seems a bit weak). I've only beaten DA 2 4 times and I've done mage 3 times (always healer/force spec) and 1 warrior. I've never played DA 2 as a rogue.
Since my "canon" playthroughs are male dwarf noble warrior Warden and male mage Hawke, it would make sense to play my Inquisitor as a rogue, but frankly, I just don't find playing as a rogue to be fun or interesting. I've probably end up going with warrior instead.
