It's only a matter of tastes. I'm not scared if a woman has more balls than me.

What do you mean "everyone"?

I love everything about SuZe. I look forward to her in Mass Effect 2 and hopefully in Mass Effect 3.

When I think of Subject Zero, "strong woman" is the LAST thing that comes to mind. She is a psychopath imo, and the bald head and tatoos done exactly help the sitation either.

Samara looks like a strong woman though.

If we'd talk about a real person, I'd say it must be a really weak and/or hurt person, that has to hide behind all those tattoos, piercings, etc., since that's just masquerade...

That's said, it's nice that the classic violent psycho role is a female this time for a change.

How about asking "do strong women who aren't overly sexualised scare gamers"? I haven't seen one who isn't the other.

Well lets just sit down and think about this, A woman who is covered in
tattoos, Aggressive piercings, and a need to show off too much skin,

These
are obvious signs of very tramatic childhoods, and So far it seems she
was a test subject for god knows what kind of horrible tests, and You
think she just comes out of all these test as a strong person?  It
Doesn't it just makes messed up people who handle things the wrong way,
with sex, crazy attitudes and Choatic relationships.

Im sure we will see how choatic and messed up she is, during the game.

These
kind of people are made through rape, beatings, losing parents,
mentally
abusive parents, neglectful parents and ritualistic torture.

I
would disagree. The only thing that stops me from shaving my hair,
getting a lot of piercings and tattoos is simply my lack of confidence.

If this is supposed to be a comment on real women who prefer to have tattoos, piercing and bald heads, then you don't know what the **** you're talking about, pardon my french. I know that this is a rare sight in Iowa but that doesn't mean that every woman who has tattoos is "disturbed". People have different tastes, sexual preferences or just plain different views on life. You don't have to be "tortured and raped" as a child to like extensive tattooing and piercings, believe me.

SuZe is not a strong character, she is obviously putting up a shell to not have to deal with reality, pretty much the definition of a weak character, Miranda and Femshep are strong characters, SuZe is a psycopath that wants to hide from reality, not saying she won't be an interesting character, but she's not strong, she may end up strong, but what we've seen so far, nope.

Subject Zero was servery abused, through testing, she needs therapy, and Is in NO WAY A STRONG WOMAN, She is just acting out, she can't handle the things that have happened to her, and acts out

Strong =/= acting out

Essentially, it's not that she's 'strong'. That's not the character archetype. She's one of someone who's been through one hell of a life and has the physical and emotional scars to show it. This archetype is predominantly male because typically, the 'boys club' world of gaming demands all the women be either comical, or sexually appealing.

SuZe is what she is.

seriously, the internets is chokeful of threads about how "disturbed" everyone is about Subject Zero. This is a little too telling to not be embarrasing.

For the most part, yeah, but most 'gamers' are middle aged man-children so it would probably be more accurate to just shorten the question and omit the word strong.

It's pretty funny either way though.

I was a bit wary of SuZe at first, since she just seemed to be a foul mouthed b****, but she's grown on me a lot. I get the feeling that under the that no nonsense exterior is an insecure and probably hurt young woman.

we are not scared by strong women

we are annoyed by women who are made into psychopaths purposely to have tough characters

someone who swears and throws chairs at walls is just creepy, not strong

There is a fine line that anti-hero characters tread. That line, of course, is determined more by your personal tastes rather than anything. So she could be an unforgivable b*tch, or a troubled anti-hero you want to help - it basically depends on your views.

Also, "badassery" does NOT equal "strong woman". In fact, she can be pretty weak under that spiky exterior. I just find her mildly repulsive (especially with their marketing), but I'm sure that she's not a two-dimensional character, so it will be interesting to see if I can teach her some common sense.

For the record, my favourite female character type is the strong woman, but I would say I prefer the cold and distant beauties. Again, YMMV.

I thought most of the freaking out over Subject Zero was based on people projecting their favourite cultural issues onto her and assuming that by including her in the game, Bioware is endorsing whatever they're really upset about.

Arguing that SuZe is "a hurt and troubled" person underneath all the make-up just proves my point. Sure, she may have what most of us would call "a troubled past" but she really seems to like what she has become, and, from an artistic standpoint, so do i. Please remember we're still talking about a characterdesign here, not a real person, 'cause as you all know, things get REALLY complicated when it comes to real people. I really hope that bioware have the balls not to diminish her by "curing" her of her badassness along the way.

I think the people who dislike her would still dislike her if she was a man. Personally, I find her "HxC 2 THA MAX, BECAUSE, F!@# YOU" attitude to be a bit distasteful, but she seems pretty powerful and I know there's more to her underneath that bald head and tattoo covered skin.

The statements made by bioware about how we can notice and make use of "moments of vulnerability" in her tough persona give me hope that we can soften her some.

Why is everyone who has tattoos a person who hides something? Zeros tattoos have a meaning. Every single one of them has a story. A person who just want to hide himself behind anything wouldn`t really care I think, he would just make some "Badass" tattoos to look evil. Also the shaved hair is no wall or anything like that, it`s part of her story of the cult she was in, she kept it as reminder or because she likes it. Couldn`t someone who has tattoos, piercings, shaved hair maybe... just like that stuff? I don`t think we have black or white here, of course she is more than only badass but she isn`t weak either. It`s something between all that.

Oh and to the question:

I prefer woman with an own mind, who can stand up or maybe even fight for themself. I want am equal partner, of course not a clone but a girl who just want`s cute things, hides behind me and does nothing else than cooking and to look good? urghs disgusting.

I love strong women and their representation in all forms of ethics, morality, psychology and philosophy. :P Seriously. There have been tons of 'badass' dudes in games that are worse representations of what a 'psychologically sane' person is, but I have never seen people sitting around and making dozens of threads disecting and insulting them like people have with SuZe. And I definitely do believe the main issue is because she is this archetype as a *woman*.

That would be interesting to know indeed, because i for one don't think so. People love Kane and Lynch and all the other tattooed, bad-mouthed and plain violent characters in videogames to death but as soon as it's a woman everyone is repulsed by her. There is somethinbg about a female character who is sexually and literally aggressive that most of the audiences can't seem to stomach and that's what i'm talking about. Films are full of that kind of women, literature knows these women since ancient times (Medea etc.) and it's damn time computergames leave their cultural adolescence behind as well.

You realize you're talking about the character that's half naked all the time right?

You know, with all the tattoos on, I don`t really realize she is "half naked".
