I don't get why every other topic is either about Miranda, Tali, Subject Zero, or "OMGOMGCANWEPURSUELOVEINTERESTSFROMTHEFIRSTGAME!!!??" Calm down, you dorks. It's a friggin video game. Seriously, is that the only reason you guys are buying this game? For a 10 second sex scene? Christ...

Samara initially drew a lot of controversy, and topics about her still get pretty heated. It's just, SuZe is far more radical, and again, everybody wants to be heard, despite how little their opinions matter.

Yeah, because it couldn't have anything to do
with roleplaying as one's personal idea of Shepard, and being able to
choose a romantic interest that would appeal to that Shepard. Certainly not.

I don't get why every other poster doesn't seem to understand something, and feels inclined to tell us about it.

I find the phrase "strong woman" a little silly, and also mildly offensive. It sort of implies that the default is weak woman.

No, it just implies that there are weak women and strong women as there are weak and strong men, children, dwarfes or what have you. I probably shouldn't said "strong" but rather "aggressive" or something along those lines. Point is that aggressive characters are perceived as "cool" if there are men. If it's a woman all the same features are suddenly repulsive.

Subject Zero "strong"? Depends on your definition of strength. She's got a lot of anger driving her, and that can be a strength on the battlefield. Emotionally, she's weak as can be.

In my eyes, a strong woman is nothing to be feared, but to be admired. My favorite examples. Marie Curie. Single mothers.

This is not the first time i read something like this in this thread and i beg to differ. For this argument women usually come in two shapes: ****s and Angels. My guess is that SuZe is so offensive to many because she is neither or both (heck i just know the trailers and artworks) and this exactly why i find her characterdesign attractive: Transgression.

I think her appearance is cool... The shaved head look is something you don't see everyday in a videogame. Her clothing makes me roll my eyes though.

I do find her personality annoying... But that could just be how it's been portrayed in the marketing. I'll pass final judgment after finishing the game.

I don't like Subject Zero because I find her the exact opposite of strong. Frankly, she's pathetic. There's a big difference between a victim and survivor, and Miss Potty Mouth is still in pity-me mode. Ever heard "the abused become the abusers"? It's because some victims feel like they can violate other people's rights because theirs have been violated. They feel like it's their "right" and that the people they pick on should stand up for themselves because nobody stood up for them when they were being hurt - even if the person they are picking is weaker than them. In this way they become what they hate.

All the tattoos and acting out are attempts at attention seeking, getting some kind of validation. If you're treated like you're nothing for long enough you start to believe it, and you lack a solid identity. So you start grasping symbols. Your hairstyle, your choice in clothing, your countless tattoos. These help you remember who you are. They are the coat of arms you present the hostile world. They are your white flag SOS. They are what ultimately keep you weak, because the only person these things have meaning to is yourself. You're trying to make people see "you" but that's not you.

Yeah. I've been there and done that. Sorry if I got too deep for anyone. :)

It's not deep, it's a psychological clichee, i'm sorry. Did it ever occur to you that a "solid identity"  could be an illusion to begin with, one that society imposes on the subject to make it more docile? And that there may be people who want to oppose that?

seriously, the internets is chokeful of threads about how "disturbed" everyone is about Subject Zero. This is a little too telling to not be embarrasing. I for one really LOVE that characterdesign, seriously, it doesn't mean that i would humb her in RL (but i'm not even sure about that), but for a GAMECHARACTER she is quite unique and badass, it puzzles me that everyone and their mother seem to hate her. There's already enough ****** and asses in that game to please the adolescent, we need something to counterbalance that. And i really love the overall characterdesign so far, just "Grunt" seems a little to obvious to me.

Quite the opposite friend...I love a strong woman.  In fact, I like them strong enough that they may be able to potentially hand me my ass and make me like it.  That way, I know I dont have to play the Hero for them if they get into trouble *coughcoughLIARA* and know they can handle themselves under pressure.  So yes, I LOVE a  strong woman and my wife is one such person Image IPB

Strong women. Scary. I can so picture coming home one day from work to be charged down by my wife (who is holding a knife) and screams out "I HAVE THE POWERRRRRRRRRRRR!" while thrusting the blade into the air.

Nah. Not really. I don't mind to be honest, I don't see why loads of people literally went bonkers when they saw subject zero. The fact that people love/hate characters is what makes this idea so good. If an actor/actress' role in a movie makes you hate them, then they have done a good job. Same applies with BioWares characters. I don't think strong women scare gamers, unless they are dressed up as Asphixia or Claudia from the Silent Hill Series. I would have said the Nurses too but ehh... I have a soft spot for them :P heh.

Personally, I feel like SuZe is a great addition to the game...Interacting with strong characters is one thing, But interacting with strong female characters, Appeasing them and earning their respect, Loyalty and admiration through said interactions, Is another thing entirely. In my opinion, I can tell I'm gonna be spending many numerous hours in turmoil over my decisions and interactions in this game.

30-40 hour game? For me, It's going to be more like a 3-6 month game!

I think the problem with women is they think that they have to be "butch" to be strong.

Strength, both emotional and physical does not need to come at the expense of femininity.

I've had enough of crazy women in the rl's, give me someone sweet in a sleek envirosuit and I'll be happy.

Strong women are fine, hard as nails, tough as old boots, that's fine, just be sane plz. And wear an enviroment suit...

As a man i would love to be with a woman superior to me in *almost* every way.

Suze looks like she just gonna be more aggressive and dangerous.Maybe unstable also.

Full body tattoo, piercings, tight leather clothing, skinheaded

That's a strong woman? That isn't a strong woman, that's a ****ing psychopath. Psychopaths can tend to be pretty scary people.

. . . . So let me get this right, just because someone has Full body tattoo, piercings, tight leather clothing, skinheaded. . . That makes them a ****ing psychopath???

Ummmmm. . . Nice generalization kid. *Roles eye’s*

Is Subject Zero a psychopath, yes, is she one because of the way she looks, no, is she the way she looks because she’s a psychopath, that remains to be seen. Though a fair amount of her Tattoo’s   are medical, you know from where she was experimented on. No doubt she was exposed to element zero, on accident, and than turned into a biotic, only problem is not every biotic was stable like Kaidan, and even he had problems.

As a character, she could ether be really Good or really bad, if having her allows us to dive more into the biotic story that seldom came up in ME1 (( for having so many around)) than more power, it would be a nice contrast to see the negative effects the program has. Zero seems more Bipolar than angry, and that in its self could come form her Biotics. If written right it she has the ability to be a compelling character.

I can't remember which vid it was in, Sci vs Fi I think, It was said that there will be a time when SuZe actually shows some vulnerability and humanity and that It'll be a chance to connect with her, On some level, If dealt with and approached carefully, Which leads me to believe that there's more to her than just this physically abused, "Tapped" personality.

humanity i did not hear vulnerablility yes i did hear that

maybe there is more to it maybe not.Maybe she has a good reason for acting that way maybe not....If the reason is because of some kind of big trauma then it better be worse then my Colonist/survivor background cause my guy isnt a psychopath.Hes a mix of renegade and paragon.
