My first time I was a little nervous at first but after a minute or two I felt comfortable and in control of the situation. We took about an hour or so before I finished and headed home. There were a few moments though where I wasn't sure what to do but with a little coaching I was able to handle it flawlessly. I felt an immense satisfaction and sense of self-accomplishment and I was told that I did really good for my first time. I was lucky that my uncle knew what he was doing and was really skilled at it. He taught me where to put my hands and how to be aware of others. So what was your first time driving a car like?

As to my first time, my instructor made me drive longer than anyone else, with just me and him, and take him on his errands, we went to all sorts of places with him telling me if I don't keep the wheel steedy he'll beat me with a golf club, or that I don't need to go slow when going over crossways, if anyone hits us we can sue.

My first time was with my dad
He utterly destroyed what little confidence I had to begin with by throwing me in a manuel and then having me go down roads that were extremely busy. I quit for a while after that, after a few months I started doing it with my grandfather and he was a much better instructor, instilled in me such skill and confidence that I passed my test first go.. I don't mean to brag but yes I am really that awesome.. Not many people can do that their first go =P
Grandfather sure liked to go for long though, sometimes for like 7 hours on trips down the coast or just down south to the country.

On initial glance at my post, man I look like a freak lol

I did, I just want nervous. I'd been driving snowmachines (known as snowmobiles in other parts of the world), ATVs, etc. since I was seven or so. Flying on an airplane had me nervous though.

Then the topic would be derailed and the modbots would lock it.

The first time I drove, I drove with two feet. I'll let you guess how that ended for me.

I never drove with two feet, but then during my driving test I started doing it for some reason? I didn't even notice until the instructor pointed it out.

I think my teacher was more nervous ... mind you not because I was a bad driver, quite the opposite in fact and it was driving him mad to see me skipping past side mirrors with an hair's lenght to spare.

Not everyone can appreciate people with an accurate sense for distances it seems.

You actually get points off for that kind of stuff--they don't see that as good driving.

I lost points for turning too close to the curb.

But seriously, my first time out was incredibly unceremonious. I had to learn how to drive at a young age to help the family, so getting my license and taking the car out alone for the first time wasn't very memorable. And since we really couldn't afford for me to get a speeding ticket (or any other kind of ticket), I didn't test the law.

My first time....
Well, the guy who was supposed to be teaching me was actually more nervous than I was despite his claim of having 'years of experience.' He was flushed and breathing heavily. I locked eyes with him and told him gently that everything was going to be okay.
"Oh god, oh god!" He'd cry out every time I went a little too fast, so very eager that I was. But then I would hush him and tell him gently that he was going to make it through this if he just relaxed.
He did, and the rest went so smoothly. We ended up enjoying ourselves immensely.

Driver's Ed is where I was nervous; not on my first solo excursion. But I disliked driving anyway, so it ain't so bad having to sit it out now.

My first time was with my impatient and short-tempered Dad and ended with me whimpering by the side of the narrowly-missed ditch--with my foot being crushed between the brake and _his_ foot--and begging him to take the driver's seat because who needs to learn to drive a car when you can walk, really?

Practiced in an empty lot with Dad, actually did perfectly fine. No real issues. Never practiced with mom though, cause she would overreact and scream, and almost make me have a wreck every time we drove together.
