Ok, so I was having a conversation with Wynne shortly after I did the first mainquest with my mage, and she asked a question that really threw me-"Isn't it about a year since you left the Circle Tower"?
That threw me because I always thought it was exactly one year between Ostagar and the Battle of Denerim. I don't think there's really much time between when you're recruited and when you reach Ostagar, so i would think it's only been 2-3 months since I left the tower.
Does Wynne just have a faulty memory, or does the Mage Warden get recruited earlier than you woud think?

I'd say it's just a dialogue flaw. Time and distances typically get screwed up in games.

It might be that the dialogue is assumed to trigger late in the game (the source of your confusion would be this, since that's not what happened in your case), and that Wynne is using the phrase "about a year" to refer to ten months or so.
Edit: Or maybe this refers to the fact that per Word of Gaider, Loghain had time to intercept Jowan, send him to Eamon, and get back to Ostagar and fight a few battles between the events of the Mage Origin and the events of the Ostagar quests.
