In DAO it was "Warden" unless you was a noble (dwarf or human), and even then the times you were called by your family name was rare. In DA2 it was always the family name.

Anyway, to the point. In DAI all races have a surname. So will Bioware make every scene referring to you specifically use your character's unique surname, or will everyone just call you Inquisitor? The former might be more expensive, but I would definitely prefer it to the more cold feeling titles. Also in case anyone didn't know about the surnames and wants a link, here-

Your either be called the inquisitor or your eminence, though I hope varric gives us a nickname.

Guessing or confirmed? Link if it's the latter.

I've read that you are going to be known as the inquisitor by most people, not all. Can't remember the link, I think it was one of the Game Informer ones

I think that in the case of NPCs Inky is going to be called Inquisitor because s/he hasn't been introduced and the NPCs don't really care about the name but the job. In one of the gameplay demos featuring combat either Vivienne or Cassandra calls out something by the title of "Inquisitor" so I have a sinking feeling about hearing any other name than that. I think non-English speakers are going to have a tough time with the human's surname. English is the only language I know and I'm only reasonably sure I know how to pronounce it myself. My own surname is written exactly as it sounds and people still mangle it.

I'm sure Varric will have a nickname for Inky and I hope it's something sarcastic. I could go through a game being called "Your grandiosity."

During the Pax demo Cassandra calls the inquisitor "Your Eminence"

I think the human character is from Orlais originally so, I'm assuiming a french-esque pronouncation of trevelyan, like Trevlyn

I'm guessing "Inquisitor", but I'm just guessing so I don't know for sure. Not really sure how I feel about my character being called by their last name. Do NPCs and everyone else already know the inquisitor's name? Wouldn't it be kind of weird for someone who doesn't even know who you are call you by your last name? Maybe that's just me. Now if you're talking about being called by your surname by more important people in the game, then I guess that's a different story.

"Inquisitor" will be fine coming from characters that aren't personally familiar with the protagonist, and "Your Eminence" from your subordinates within the Inquisition. I'm sure BioWare can--and will--come up with ways for characters you're familiar with to talk to you without dropping your title in every conversation. Varric will no doubt give the Inquisitor a nickname, as well.

You can hear it in the demo multiple times. The Crestwood Guard calls you "Your Eminence"in this video.

At the end with the dragon, Cassandra also calls you "Inquisitor".

We'll either be called the Inquisitor or his/her Eminence depending on who's talking to you, guess it's possible for our companions give us nicknames but who knows.

I hadn't noticed the "eminence" thing. I don't think I like it.

Most occasions I think title makes more sense really. Particularly since it seems like you'll be actually formally in command, rather than just having people who'll follow you around sometime like DA2.

And the occasions when the title really doesn't fit, the surname doesn't fit either.

There probably should be occasions when you'll be addressed by something origin specific, but I probably wouldn't go for surnames in most cases, anyway. Unless you're from a notable family like the Couslands.

I'm fine with being called 'my lord', 'your eminence', 'Inquisitor'. I think that for people that have a more familiar relationship with us we might need something else, but I have no clue about Bioware should do.

I doubt that. Travelyan's an English surname (specifically Cornish) and the Inquisitor had an English accent in the demo. Providing the name/VA doesn't change I think we'll be Fereldan again.

Varric seemed to give everyone but Hawke and Aveline a nickname; the same might be true for the Inquisitor simply due to the different cultural backgrounds, and (hopefully) how varied the player can shape their protagonist. I'm wondering if the Dwarven protagonist is somehow related to Shale, and whether the Tal-Vashoth will be identified by name or role (like some Tal-Vashoth are). Perhaps the Dalish Inquisitor might be identified as First or Keeper by the other clans if the elven mage held such a rank with his (or her) clan, before the catalysmic event that changed everything.

Most likely 'Inquisitor' all day, every day. I like how Codemasters games handle this (Dirt and Grid games) where you can pick a name and your called that (I usually roll with Spanky). I understand that this would be a big undertaking for DAI, but a lad can dream now, can't he?
