I want my current Shep to cheat on Kaidan. Here's the catch: I'm not intending the romance to last; she'll be switching to Samaaantha in 3. Right now, she's running a bit wild and drinking the Cerberus kool-aid. So what would be a good fling before she settles down to Earth. Jacob's out, as I have standards.

I know it's not all that exciting, by my Samantha-romancin' Shepard stuck with only Kelly, and I dug that. Granted, I just wanted a run through ME2 without one of the primary romance options, which turned into a Sam story in ME3.

Honestly, as long as you don't date Garrus, you're pretty much single in ME3. Thane's not a bad choice. You get to dump him a few weeks before he dies, so that might be fun.

Thane's romance scene in the Captain's cabin is fairly nice. But the hospital meet up in ME3 is horrid, both with the paragon interrupt, and the "can we speak in private" dialogue option. So, I would say, if you want a full time ME2 romance, but don't want complications in ME3 (and who can resist Sam?) then go for Thane in ME2, but don't pursue it AT ALL in ME3. Really, the hospital scene was horrid.

In ME2 you can actually run through all your romance options. The trick is to chat up all your options until you get them all to the point where they're about to commit. Be sure to quick save before talking to them so they can't rope you into a "You have to choose" discussion, avoid that.
Then you pursue one romance. Right before the suicide mission you'll sleep with them. Dump them immediately after and go with one of the others and you'll get the same scene you'd have gotten with them if they were your romance option before the suicide run. You can run through all of them this way, dump them, then call Kelly up for some fun. Actually, you can call each of them up after the Suicide mission and after having slept with them for some more cozy time. You can even call up Kelly between each romance as your rebound girl if you want to be really calloused about it

Simple. Romance someone in 2 and get them killed in the suicide mission. Thane likes hot, dry places, right? Send him through the tubes. It'll save you the painfully bad hospital scene in ME3 without forcing you to play the first half of the game with only James, EDI and Liara as squadmates.

I did this with my current Shepard. This thread gives you a comprehensive list of how to kill whoever you want during the ME2 suicide mission.
