So Frozen this week will be at $1.01 billion. I don't know about it beating Toy Story 3, it would need a strong showing in Japan along with the carryover everywhere else. Japan can do it, but maaan, I don't know.

Anyway, nine days till the Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Download combo drop!

Someone did a rough sketch of what the cut song would look like. I would imagine the last scene to be where Elsa blasts Anna though but most of them are pretty spot on.

Annnd I still really like that song for some reason.

It doesn't sound quite as out of place any more with that video there too.

Sooo, I finally went to see Frozen this weekend. Though it was definitely a lovely movie, I feel like I went in with expectations that were too high after all the hype (omg, best Disney movie ever!) and it did not live up to everything I had expected of it. The plot twist deserves respect, as I don't recall anything similar happening in previous Disney movies, I can see how that puts the movie up in people's top 10. The alternate interpretation of true love was nice as well, but actually not something never seen before, not even in Disney movies. Tarzan, Mulan, Beauty & the Beast, The Lion King and The Little Mermaid all had acts out of love for family as well. The only thing that made it different for Frozen was because the movie kept hammering on true love as being the romantic love to make the love between family less expected.

Frozen was good in its dark moments. Beautiful and moving, but I missed the humor that is also so important in all the Disney movies I have seen. I didn't find Olaf that funny. Kristoff's "I wanna tell him" after Olaf's song was the highlight for me in terms of humor.

I don't mean to come across as a hater, because Frozen was still a good movie and it looked amazing. I loved the songs as well (though For the First Time in Forever somehow reminds me a lot of I See the Light from Tangled). If somebody has more insight into the logic of the ending I would appreciate it. Perhaps I am missing something obvious there. But all in all I prefer Tangled of Disney's recent work. :)

Don't worry, you don't come across as a hater. Opinions and all that, and well supported ones to boot.  ^_^

Anyways, I'll give my two cents on things.

Hmmmm. Of all the ill timed screenshots throughout history, this humorous/demonic example is definitely a fave of mine.

When we talk about legacy, there is also racism mixed into it as well. Like Earthbound said, it's not about disrespecting the legacy but acknowledge it as a product of its time. Women were seen as an object to be acquired, obedient waiting for her men. Time is changing, and women want more substantial things in life. At the end of the days, they're just fantasy being perpetuated overtime. I do think that there's nothing wrong with it, but it does create an expectation for prince charming to be wonderful and perfect. There comes a day when every princess would have to realize that there's a fat slob laying on the couch eating Cheetos all day which caused her to second guessing her decision to marry someone she just met and should just try online dating instead. May as well shatter those expectations now.

I think you mean sexism instead of racism here? I disagree that any of the princesses/ladies in Disney movies were mere objects to be acquired by the prince. Cinderella and Snowwhite led pretty miserable and lonely lives. It's not strange to wish for love in such a situation, and though times may be changing, I think most women (and men) would still like to find someone they can spend the rest of their life with. What exactly is supposed to be more substantial than love? Better jobs, higher wages, equal rights? All very important of course, but those things don't really have a place in fairytales?

I'm afraid I don't understand the last part of your post. Fairytales create the expectation that the love of a girl's life is perfect but after a while Prince Charming turns into a lazy slob eating cheetos? I don't think you can blame fairytales for that scenario, as everyone should know you should not take those tales literally. It is more about the moral of the story, which is often that even if life treats you harshly, you should remain kind and friendly and eventually things will get better. I suppose that can also be a rather naieve mindset, but it's still not so bad to try to live by that idea, imo.

I think it could lead to an abusive relationship. Many abusive relationships happen because the abuser has power over the victim. The victim is too depending on the abuser. If their life is crappy then just clinging on to whatever you have, hence the prince, without even knowing if the alternative is any better. Their life with their prince charming could be just as crappy or even worse. I'm just overanalyzed it, but the concept of prince charming saving you from your wretched life seems to be too simple. It also takes away the independent of a woman. Why can't the women help herself instead of waiting for a guy to rescue her? The old concept is just perpetuating the damsel in distress type of deal and female submissiveness. I also find the concept of prince charming to be very shallow and lead to the princess syndrome. Many women have a really high expectations for their men that they don't even meet themselves. Prince charming is an abstract concept that rise high expectation for both women and men. Love at first sight is nothing more than physical aspect of a person. How could you love someone you know nothing about? It seems like you're only attracted to him for his look and hoping he doesn't turn out to be a creep.

I recently saw Frozen. I was quite impressed by it. Definitely up there with the best of the Disney renaissance.

Favorite songs: "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" and "Fixer Upper"

Favorite character: Anna

Hell even one on one he wouldn't stand a chance.

A fight against them both is not something you want to pursue.

Luckily such stupidity is perfectly in character for Frost.

Yeah, Jack wouldn't have a snowflakes chance in hell of beating Elsa! That fight would leave Jack out cold. Just the thought of fighting Elsa would leave Jack frozen with fear.
