Correction: PS4 has PS Plus, which allows you to get some games (including some of the most expensive ones) for free and use multiplayer in all PS4 games which have multiplayer. Payment is almost the same as for one subscription-based MMO. For all of mentioned things.
Do you have a centralized service on PC which requires monthly subscription and allows you to play any multiplayer game (including any MMO) for free? No... Conclusion: considering next-gen consoles' low price and all things I mentioned above (including previous post) - modern console gaming will cost you less money, and provide you with healthy environment free of all sorts of trash grinding/farming primitive games.

This is assuming I do play MMO games. As for the service Origin and Steam are suitable enough for gaming on the PC as they cost nothing but offer most of the services which the console gaming encompasses.

Correction. If you stop the payment, you lose all those free games and content. It's the exact same thing. A good gaming pc is not that expensive and how that relates to "healthy" environment at all isn't relevent to this discussion.

Fun fact: Pretty much any non-MMO multiplayer on the PC is free...unlike console multiplayer.

That's what I said. My point was, what does Zenimax do when they go 200 mil bust? Quite suddenly, everything that Bethesda has striven for and accomplished, in terms of freedom, is gone.

PC doesn't need a centalized service like that because we don't have to pay an extra monthly fee in order to play the vast majority of our games online to begin with(or in the PS4's case, all of them).

No, there's always hope, I guess. At least the ES franchise has acquired decent amount of attention.
But I'm not particularly optimistic about this venture, no.

If you're going in with a negative outlook, the negative aspects that will pop up (cause that's bound to happen) are probably going to stick out to you more, regardless because of how you view it right now. Plus, the fact that there is still a ton of people modding for Skyrim and Bethesda games in general, I doubt if the MMO flops, it will impact the franchise in a bad way. There is already so much lore and aspects set in stone that I doubt we'll never seen Elder Scrolls VI. Look how long it took for Skyrim to come out.

Yeah, it's called my broadband bill. The same one you pay for when you use a console online, on top of a subscription for multiplayer.
And what MMO is currently available on the PS4 or X1 per chance? Oh that's right, there isn't one.

But you're still having to pay a fee either monthly, six months, a year, what have you to play online on top of your internet connection. I had to pay for an MP pass for Mass Effect, sure, but no fee on top of that.
But as what spirosz said before, if you don't like MMOs, then just don't play them.

If you don't wanna spend much money, you can pay only for PS Plus. You will have tons of content for free. You can't buy modern gaming PC for 500$ and then pay 15$ per month to have many different modern AAA games at your disposal. The only thing you will get for 500$ plus 15$ per month is WoW with all add-ons and without PC

Just because it hasn't happened it yet, does not preclude it from happening.
Why would you do it?
Because costs to create digital assets are huge, and why not leverage them to the max and monetize them for different groups of users who wish to experience them differently.

Yes, but he believes that PCs can be used for work, remember?spirosz wrote...
Exactly, Seival. Why would someone stop the payment if they enjoy it? Relate that to any MMO with a subscription base. And yes you can buy a modern PC for 500$, just don't be stupid and find deals that are everywhere. You realize when crafting a PC you don't have to get every part right away. Also, you're interested in concept art and such right, or the gaming business in general? Guess what you have to use.

PS4 was just released. The store is almost empty. The only MMO available is War Thunder. And it doesn't require any additional payment of course. Later there will be Destiny, Elder Scrolls Online. But more importantly, there will be no trash MMO flood.

$15/month for content is not free content. It is content that costs $15 per month.
Besides, we have plenty of free to play games on PC and I certainly could build a modern gaming PC for around $500.
It wouldn't include top of the line hardware, but then neither do the consoles.

A licensing fee, essentially.
Plus PC games will over the long run save more than console games.
But back to MMOs now.
