I've realized that while most of those games are 'free' you need to spend alot of money to be good. Which sucks for poor uni student me.

Which ones specifically?

I've mainly played shaiya and guild wars

It's going to be just another time consumer and destroyer of personal real life... But at least it has good visual part :)

Well, for Guild Wars - I don't ever remember having to "pay" to win, never spend a dime except for the expansions that came out.  And I don't know what Shaiya is, hah.

Destiny is an always online game with a persistent, company server-limited world, and a multiplayer focus. It's an MMO.

Same for The Division. PROBABLY same for The Crew (though they might allow offline play, don't know yet).

Congratulations.

You just described almost all video games from the point of view of the person playing them.

We know nothing about it sevil. Hell we have seen like 30 mins of gameplay over all not enough to judge it on.

There are still many pay-to-win and subscription-based games on PC, and they keep making this trash. On PS4 you pay 60$ per year for multiplayer in all games with multiplayer (not just for one of them) plus you get several 60$-AAA-games for free. And don't forget that deals and sales are not PC-exclusive feature :)

I'm not really sure that this will be a difference in the upcoming generation of consoles with the newfound prevalance of microtransactions. COD is selling camos, battlefield is selling weapons, as is mass effect. Really, microtransactions are going to become the new subscription fee and the new model for pay to win. Also, I have recieved 5 games for free on the PC over the last two months, and I have recieved 12 games for less than 20 dollars as a result of humble bundles, and I have spent about 15 dollars on three indie titles. I also bought the Mass Effect Trilogy for the PC for the price of 15 dollars, which is half of what the 360 version is being sold for. I will admit that console sales have gone a long way, but they still aren't as good as PC sales. I own an xbox 360 and I have recieved 5 free games and have bought 5 games for 30 dollars. The only comparable prices for games across the two platforms are indie games, as they are generally the same price.

I came here to kick ass and drink estus. And I'm all out of estus.

OP: I can understand if you're not too fond of MMOs. They're fun if you have the community and story to go with it.

An MMO that lacks many of the characteristics of a traditional MMO game

In non-MMO games I don't have to play 5 hours each day to roll OMG-new-sword-plus-10-to-balls-power just to throw it away next month and start grinding new OMG-sword. I don't have to join a guild of 12-years-old farmers to gain access to end-game content, and spend 6 hours per day for grinding to avoid being kicked from the guild. Any non-MMO game can be put on pause without need to leave the raid, and being kicked from the top-end guild as a result. Any non-MMO game's multiplayer doesn't require too much time - game sessions are just 15-30 minutes long.

Without MMOs I have time for life, and for learning a new profession :)

People can also do that while being fans of MMOs. It's called self-control.

You can do that with MMOs, and if you really can't then that's your own personal problem

Oh Seival, I can't wait for you to geekgasm over the next super shiny new game, only to forget it as soon as the next big thing comes out!

You're like a cat chasing a laser pointer!

I guess I just imagined the part where I played WoW during 4 years in college and still was able to do things with friends on top of heroic raiding and learning both graphic design and computer programming.

Either that or I've gained mastery over time itself.
