I took some screenshots to display in conversations, and I thought I was right on the 1600x800, but as it turns out this resolution fits the whole screen, resulting on hidden image by the cutscene bars. Anyone knows if these tga to display on convos have different resolution?
I am on a PC without the game installed at the moment so I cannot check the OC folders, that why I ask.
Thanks a lot.

I use 1920x1080. That's my screen resolution, and a standard 16:9 aspect ratio. Whether higher or lower, whatever resolution you choose will be scaled to fit the user's monitor, and the aspect ratio is not preserved. So, if you make it smaller at the top and bottom, it'll just be stretched out vertically to fill the screen first, then cover up the top and bottom with black bars. You can choose not to overlay the black bars in your dialogue, if you like, but that would make the text harder to read. Alternatively, use an image that doesn't have anything important in the top or bottom, so it doesn't matter if it's covered up.
If the user is using a 4:3 aspect ratio, and you use a 16:9 aspect ratio, then the image will be squashed horizontally to fit, resulting in skinny people. If you use a 4:3 aspect ratio and the user is using a 16:9 aspect ratio, it will be stretched horizontally, resulting in fat people.

So there is no way of actually controlling it. I know this with the bars, but as you said, some text might be hard to read. I guess the only solution is to put everything of interest in the middle of the picture.

You can always experiment with different text colours, until you find one that works most of the time. Or change the text colour subtly for each image, lightening or darkening it as required.
