Was anyone as disappointed as myself, when confronted with the utter lack of bears in Dragon Age 2?

Dragon Age needs bears!

They were plentyful in Ferelden, but were apparently hunted to extinction in the Free Marches.

Well, seeing as how Inquisition is not set only in the Free Marches, isn't it about time the bears returned?

Please Bioware, bring back the bears.

Why would bears necessarily live in the Free Marchers? It'd a different part Thedas. Kirkwall is far and far away from Ferelden by land. There was no reason to necessarily have bears in DA2.
I don't recall that there were that much bears in Ferelden (they were less than a dozen, if I recall). But sure, I'm not against them being back in DAI.

There were at least 14 bears in DA:O, and that's not counting Ranger pets, or Morrigan transformations.

But, be that as it may, the fact that we, the players only actually came face-to-face with 14 bears does not mean that only 14 poor bears lived in Ferelden, if that were the case, they'd now be extinct, which would be a terrible shame.

When it comes to Inquisition, by all means keep the Free Marches free of bears and other ursine wanderers, but they should be free to live out their lives in other parts of Thedas.

It would be un-bear-able to enter a cave and not meet a bear or two... and possibly some cubs.

If we're going to anywhere tropical like Tevinter I want to see animals like tigers, elephants, and giant scorpion mounts.

Aww. I was really hoping this would be about wanting a chest hair slider in the character creator.

Really? I would like to avoid going around the map and exterminate the animal species that are made as a random encounter......

A bear there was, a bear, a bear!
All black and brown, and covered with hair!
Oh, come, they said, oh come to the fair!
The fair? Said he, but I'm a bear!
All black, and brown, and covered with hair!

I'd like to see more wildlife encounters of all types since we'll be travelling. Bears were pretty tough for a low level character. But yes, bears, wolves, deer and rabbits. If they don't attack, let them go their way and if they do, experience.

I agree with what you're saying.
Though I wouldn't say the game "needs" bears.

I'd like to see more bears. They're a very ferocious species in real life.
In video games, they propose a great challenge to gamers.
So having them in a game sounds like a nice idea.:wizard:

DA2 was restricted mostly to a city. Why would there be bears in a city?

Precisely.

I don't think that all the bears particularly need to attack the player on sight. Most species of common bear will not automatically attack a human unless provoked, cornered, starving or desperate. (or have been conditioned to associate humans with food).

Basically, I think we just need to encounter bears within the game once more. It doesn't necessarily have to take the form of a combat challenge.

Well, to be fair, not all of the game took place inside Kirkwall, there were plenty of cave areas within DA:2 along the Wounded Coast and Sundermount with plenty of opportunities for some cool bear interaction. All we ever got though was spiders, more damned spiders and a few mangy drakes. Never a bear to be seen, which is why I figured they'd all been hunted to extinction.

They could definitely have thrown in some sort of leather bar into Kirkwall.

Tevinter isn't tropical.  It's probably like Alabama or possibly Arizona if it's more arid.

Bears are basically ubiquitous in the forested parts of the northern hemisphere, so if they're found on the Thedosian continent they're probably found ALL OVER the continent.

As long as my favorite Gund plushie polar bear Snuffles gets to make a cameo appearance, then yes - add bears. :P

Varric riding into battle on a bear would be awesome though. We wouldn't even need the Inquisition if Varric had a bear mount.
