The Reapers are no longer a galaxy threatening menace; in fact the endings all seem to indicate that all Reapers everywhere are dealt with in some form or fashinon. But it is my opion that much like the Darkspawn of Dragon Age, or the Covenant of Halo, or the Klingons of Star Trek, the Reapers are an intrinsic part of the setting, and that completly removing them forever would be an unfortunate blow to the dynamic of the Mass Effect universe.

This does not mean that I would like every Mass Effect title to be about how to deal with the Reapers; they have been the big bad for the entirety of the series, its time to let other conflicts and enemies take the spotlight; but I would like to see that Reapers still have a presence in the setting. I don't want to debate how some Reapers survived, BioWare can work them back into the setting easily enough, I just wanted to share some ideas of how I would like to see Reaper survivors act in a post-Catalyst galaxy.

The first thing that I would like to see brought back is their Cuthulu natures, operating from the shadows for their own nefarious reasons. Any surviving Reapers would be very few in number, so their 'God-mode' tactics in ME 3 will no longer apply. They will have to operate with care; use some actual tactics beyond bumb rushing their enemies and killing them with overwhelming numbers. Subelty and suprise would be their greatest assets in a galaxy that would unite in trying to edraticate them should they fully reveal themselves.

With the motivation behind the Reaper harvests gone, the surviving Reapers could start to operate under their own individual agendas, they could finally have their personalities back. Nothing says that the remaning forces have to be united in some grand scheme. These are ancient machines with incredible power and an immortal perspective to the universe at large, what would they do? Would some seek to continue the cycle, perhaps, but you could have others that wish to influence galactic society to their whims. A giant among a sea of ants, even if the ants can kill the giant quite easily in a stand up fight, it wouldn't stop the sense of superiority that the Reapers regard themselves with when compared to the other races of the galaxy.

A good example of what I am talking about would be the Suul'ka from the Sword of the Stars universe

Galactic Cold and Civil Wars.

The 'blue' to ME1-3's 'red'. I'm speaking in the most general terms possible, of course.

I completely agree, OP.

However, toss in Leviathans, our own peoples' hubris with tech, and more, and you got youtself a game, mistah! (though yeah, I guess some on BSN would hate it)

OH wait, green squiggly lines, smiling EDI, and the Reaper Police. NEVERMIND :lol:...;)
(For the record, this isn't even 'Pro-Destroy'. I actually WANT Reapers to still play a role. Their current THREAT and the CYCLE can take a backseat while other things set up the new chessboard.)

Unless the player picked Synthesis and Control, in which case the Reapers will be providing your friendly neighbourhood statesec... or unless the player happened to pick Destroy, in which case there won't be any Reapers (or much technology) left.

With the motivation behind the Reaper harvests gone, the surviving Reapers could start to operate under their own individual agendas, they could finally have their personalities back

What makes you think that the Reapers have each "their own personalities" to which they could revert? They were created as tools by Catalyst, and will no more develop a personality than your iPhone when the next gen version comes out.

Nothing says that the remaning forces have to be united in some grand scheme

A lone crazy gunman going on a rampage is a tragedy, not an epic quest for our intrepid heroes.

These are ancient machines with incredible power and an immortal perspective to the universe at large, what would they do?

Not much since now everyone knows about them.

Yeah, I get it - you don't like how the Mass Effect trilogy ended and would prefer the writers to retcon everything you didn't like but it just doesn't link up with the established events.

If Bioware ever creates a sequel (the next ME game appears not to be) I would rather see new antagonists than the Reapers remaining perpetually the villains of the Mass Effect series. I'd rather see the Reaper plotline put to rest once and for all at the close of ME3.

I am not suggesting that we never fight anything but the Reapers. I agree with you, let another antagonist and another conflict star in the new games.

What I am saying is that I would like the Reapers to remain apart of the setting. IMO they are intrinsic to it, they were the big baddies for ME 1 - 3 but they are also (estentially) the creators of the Mass Effect universe. It's a shame that they were tainted with the endings, since in people's rush to wipe them (endings) from memory they are also including everything about the Reapers.

Again, we don't need the Reapers as some overarching threat to the galaxy, just an element in the background, like how Dragon Age: Origins dealt with an Archdemon and a Blight. The Darkspawn are still and element to the Dragon Age setting, they just aren't the primary one as the series continues.

I say Batarian remnants rebuild one in order to use it as an agent of vengeance.
