in no particular order since I'm really, really bad at picking favourites
(please note that within fifteen seconds of posting this reply I will undoubtably think of half a dozen other movies I should have selected instead)
Dr Horrible
Clerks
Dogma
Office Space
Aliens
Anchorman
Girl, Interrupted
Dagon (because it's the closest I've seen to a really Lovecraftian Lovecraft movie)
Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
American Beauty

Sigh, so many brilliant movies. Could probably think up another 20 thar should be on this list the second I hit submit.
(No particular order)
1. Duck Soup
(Best Marx bro's, and have to have one, I grew up on the stuff.)
2. Star Wars
(Ok, it wasn't that great as a movie, but nostalgia rules)
3.Jackie Brown
(The best Tarantino film, not homage, but a real film.)
4. Patton
(Must have a WW II flic, and this is one of the best, despite some inaccuracies.)
5. Dr. Strangelove
(Pure diamond this is. Peter Sellers = genius.)
6. 7 Samurai
(classic. 'nuff said.)
7. Shawnshank Redemption.
(The one I always forget. If you haven't seen this, see it, now.)
8. Aliens
(The mother of sci-fi action.)
9. Kill Bill
(Not really a film, more a collection of homages to different action genres, and Tarantino knows how to make homages.)
10. The Quest for the Holy Grail
(Not enough python on this list, Life of Brian could also fit this easily.)
Sigh, and so many still left out...

My top 10, with the reasons why I like them.
10. Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Storyline was a bit predictable, character development was lacklustre, but the movie did give a real sense of travelling and exploration and that is what Tomb Raider has always been about. It deserves a spot in my top 10 just for not failing as hard as everybody expected it to.
9. Perfect Blue. I didn't expect to like this animated psychological horror when I first picked up the box. But there are still parts of this movie that unsettle me a little, which means it muct have had some sort of effect on me. I couldn't explain exactly why it's in my top 10, but it's here nonetheless.
8. Dumb and Dumber. One of the best movies to watch after having a bad day. If you're not laughing by the end of Act 1, there must be something wrong with your sense of humour.
7. Akira. This should really be several movies with the number of stories being told in it. Bringing them all together so seamlessly is a work of genius on the writer's part.
6. Star Trek: Nemesis. What a tangled web they weave! This has been the only Star Trek movie with plot twists that I couldn't predict, and it brings real closure to the TNG arc. If only they'd given the same closure to the other arcs before STO.
5. West Side Story. Probably the best Broadway show ever, scaled up for the big screen where it belongs. What's not to love about it?
4. Macbeth (2005). The classic tale of power and betrayal, put into a modern setting. Probably the most difficult of Shakespeare's works to modernise, but masterfully done without destroying the believability of the characters. I'll never look at a restaurant kitchen in the same way again.
3. Metropolis. A commentary on segregation and racism, and the consequences of not respecting another's right to exist and treating others like tools. The ending is a real tearjerker too, which you don't expect in movies like this.
2. Disney's Fantasia. A rich tapestry of music and magic. Everybody should watch this movie at least once in their lifetime.
1. Pitch Black. Touching on one of humanity's most primal of fears, the movie is just as much of a psychological horror as it is sci-fi. It also paints a picture unappealing to some - the idea that to deal with one evil you need to rely on a different kind of evil, which sets the theme for the movies that follow. Top of my list because it's exactly what the first part of a series of movies should be like.

Oh, I HATE making these lists.

Later on I'm going to kick myself for not including something.
And as it was, it killed me to cut Casablanca, A Night at the Opera and Dark City from this list...

Finally, at any given moment the order of these could well change.
