Really? That doesn't sound right... my only rogue would not have let her live, and only one or maybe two of my main Wardens would have tried to persuade her... Maybe my Dwarf Commoner was the one, 'cause I know she would have tried to convince her.Shadow of Light Dragon wrote...

It's possible to ensure Cauthrien doesn't die. Unfortunately, I have no idea how you do it. I've only ever managed to do it once, and all I know is it was probably through the correct dialogue options. I don't remember which origin that Warden was.Olive Oomph wrote...

You need a decent Coercion score when she challenges you at the Landsmeet, I believe. Basically if you convince her to admit that Loghain might have gone too far, she lets you pass.
If you could bring a da character back to life who would it be?

As for the topic question... Maybe Duncan, Seneschal Varel or Allison. Most dead characters aren't memorable, and the ones that are, won't necessarily die anyway (Ser Cauthrien, Anora, Branka, The Grand Oak Tree, the Hermit, Zathrien, Bhelen, killable companions, etc.).
EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot DA2 characters LOL.
Let's see... There are none that always die and are memorable. Hmm, maybe the Viscount?
you need REALLY HIGH strength to intimidate her or top tier coercion

I believe there was a bug that made the coercion check for that particular persuade option check your proficiency with poisons instead.

Oriana and Oren Cousland. I think that scene pissed my off the most, it was there when I said oh I hope I run into Howe before the game is over.

Seriously though I like dead characters to stay dead no matter how sad it was. It cheapens the story and really cheapens the tragedy if anyone could just come back to life in the next game.

In DAO: probably Cailian, because he had a lot of potential, given how he was supposedly trying to form lasting peace between Ferelden and Orlais. And also, "glorious!"
And Duncan, of course. Even though he would have gone on his Calling soon, I would like to get to know him (and his beard) better.
In DA2: Carver, because I don't hate him like everyone else seems to.
And Danarius, so I can hammer nails into his limbs on the floor, sap him of his mana and let Fenris have at him.

Yes. from memory, most of that conversation was him moaning about his lack of impact in his life and inability to do anything about Uldred's coup.
My Warden nodded along and agreed with his spinelessness.
So, in the middle of a crisis, a guy dies and feels he didn't do enough. What a shocker.<_<
Clearly he should've remarked about the weather and do a dance as the warden left.
He wasn't dying at that moment. He was stuck in the Fade being impotent and doing absolutely nothing about it. Becoming my fanboi for turning into a mouse and auditioning for Most Useless And Whiny Mage Ever, I guess.
Also, there was no weather to speak of.
But if you have a soft spot for beta mages, go for it. Bring him back to life.

Mhairi or Wynne. Mhairi for having a character without an emo background and Wynne for being a character with a very emo background. Then again Wynne accepted her fate, Mhairi was just so sudden. So mean to first let you get approval and then kill the character no matter what...

Duncan, Riordan, Tamlen, Bethany for my mage Hawkes (I honestly think she is a better healer than Anders), Awakening Anders, Orsino, Daveth, Petrice so I can kill her myself, Cailan, Ser Otto, Merrill's clan, Danyla, Lady of the Forest, Meredith so I can watch her blow up again and again, that Inferno Golem so I can take its control rod off The Lost's corpse and have it crush anything in my way.

Anders, because he's essential to the Mage/Templar conflict in my opinion. Killing him shouldn't had been an option, I think. That's just my opinion, but I really can't see the mage & templars ending without him since he started the whole thing.

Bioware probably though that his story arc his over. I doubt that he'll have a big role in the rebellion, considering that even Fiona didn't approve of what he did.
Though I don't understand what you meant when you said that you don't see the war ending without him. What do you mean?

Usually when someone starts a war, he or she is automically claiming the leading post. Anders here was suicidal and was written like a bipolar character, taking things to the extremes. Though this conflict lasted enough and his act was the trigger needed for people of Thedas to wake up.
Mages won't take it anymore and he's what mages should look up to. Even as a "terrorist" he could easily inspire courage and determination to his own kind, as a leader or a supporter to the leaders.
I'm going to get bashed by Anders haters, but that's just how I see it since I'm siding with Mages and the "change was essential" factor.

@Teddie Sage: I disagree. His role was certainly important, but the conflict didnt start for over a year, with the mages refusing the separation. The role of other characters was fundamental in actually starting the conflict. Asunder (in my opinion, of course) reduced his importance (as well as Meredith's) in the conflict.
As for him being a leader, he never wanted himself to be one, and thinks Hawke would've been a better leader for the mages.

I wouldn't mind my Hawke to be the real leader of the Mages Army to be honest. Even if he or she was a Rogue or a Warrior class Hawke, he or she would still lead that army with Anders at his or her sides.
