Would mean they wouldn't have to pick a definitive canonical storyline - Different people would believe different things about Shepherd and his adventures.

You are going to be a general in command of the councils army (which the size and species involved will depend on your decisions in ME 1,2, and 3) and you have to fight the terminus species such as the batarians (I would say that the reapers would be the enemy but they will probably be dealt with in ME3).
My theory on the plot of the RPG not involving shepard:
You play as the child of Shepard, and who you romance in the first 3 games determines what species you are (in my case they will be Liara's daughters) and you take up where your father left off. What you do I have no idea, since ME3 hasn't come out yet

I hope we still get resolution to the reaper storyline in 3 =/
oviously we will because in one part of the game theres a flashback sequance taking you back to the prothean machine from me1 and you have that image but now with collectors... i do question now though if the collectors are the reapers because think when you do legions mission and when your done you hear shepard say after we boarded the ship. and as for the collectors well anderson said it best by saying theres sooo little data about them

There could be a whole new trilogy about the colonies fighting against slavers and mercenaries, Myst-style mystery/story games revolving around CSec investigators, space combat sims and others.
With a whole universe built up like Mass Effect is, the ideas are limitless.

Seriously, what's up with this thread necromancy here. The past three days, I've seen at least four different topics being resurrected where the last post was at least three months back.
Stop it guys. No need to bump three month old "news" ...

Not to come off as a complete ass to the OP but.....We already know this. This is very VERY old news. But thank you for playing anyway
Actually, ... this is the very same news from the very same date when it was new. Just that some pals necromanced the thread.
And that was it for this one, I am not contributing anymore to keep this undead thread alive.

I'd really need to be impressed with ME3 to hold my interest.

I would really enjoy a Mass Effect FPS. Something less heavy than the RPGs, because whilst they're incredible, they're not as immediately accessible as say, Halo. It could be set in the First Contact war, and you could play as a young Captain Anderson.
Hell, why stop there. Make a "Mass Effect Origins" with all the service prehistory scenarios on Elysium, Akuze, Torfan, etc. Import your ME1 or ME2 save and see your Shepard as an NPC, making paragon or renegade choices depending on how you played in ME1 or ME2.

I am Uglybandit, and Cmdr Shepard is my favorite character!
Seriously....
I cant remember a franchise I have enjoyed more(talking video gaming). If they wanna keep kicking out Shepard material, then they can count me among those that will keep buying it..
Probably would try another character if they make another RPG-centric game. Not into RTS.

An MMORPG would be the only thing I would like to see come out of the Mass Effect universe outside of Shepards Trilogy. I feel like it would be jumping the shark if more games were to come out, and I like ME too much for that to happen.
OK, so just so I'm clear: exploring other corners of the universe in 1P games would be stretching things beyond where they ought stop, but exploring other corners of the universe in a MMORPG would not be stretching things beyond where they ought stop? Oh dear.
Seriously, is there any trend in the video game industry more annoying (or shark-jumping-ing) than taking every franchise even remotely appropriate and turning it into a MMORPG? MMORPGs are like new reality TV shows: everyone knows that all the good concepts are done to death, but the format is so damned lucrative we will never see the end of them.
I would be nervous of any ME game that diverged too far from the 1P shooter/rpg hybrid mold. It's sort of what defines the franchise.
