How is not knowing who Nelson Mandela is such an affront to society?

I didn't get why some of you are so upset that you'd PM me calling me a pedophile or continue to insist I know who he was. I didn't know what a floppy disc or VHS was until last week. Is that even more of an affront?

I found them interesting, like mini-Cinema reels for your living room. Olden day technology.

My advice? Before you admit to not knowing something, Google it. Educate yourself. Only good things will come of it.
Best Advice Ever.

Google is your friend OP when you come across things you know nothing about and would like to learn more about.

Are you that desperate of being popular on these forums?
You read into things to much. If I wanted that I'd just make one of those forum game threads.

Do you know what apartheid is OP? Have you ever experienced any form of discrimination? Did you check your privilege today?
Oh lordy. Assumptions galore. As someone who didn't know English until three years ago and furthermore lived in a remote Alaskan village, I've faced the occasional disdain. Native Alaskan are often dismissed as drunks.
Also BSN has a high amount of intolerance for those of us who haven't been speaking English long. #EnglishMasterLanguage

Nothing wrong at all from where you come from...as not native English speaker myself got the hang of the language better by reading and writing it on here since I joined. Often it is not how things are spelled but more about what is actually being said from my experience...
