I suppose nows not the best time to mention how I want to throw screaming elven children into flaming pits with blight wolves to rip them to pieces, with a vertically bisected head of an elf as my shoulder pouldrens, and allowing my men to have their way with the knife eared harlots and proceeding to use them as arrow practice, all while choreographing their delightful screams of terror, agony and misery into a perfect adaptation of the nutcracker score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Too casual, Massively. You haven't forced them to eat their own children yet.

And they'll get none of them either. Elf babies are tasty.

Arlathan could also just have been a myth and never have actually existed.

The look on the Dalish after finding out Arlarthan was a myth used for stories. Oh, their poor fragile hearts! As much as I like the elves who stand by their own culture, their attitude sucks.

In many games the elves are always like that.

"poor we... bad humans took our lands... but we are proud!"

I hope it is Arlathan, or a part of Arlathan. I would love to learn more of the ancient elven lore, history and knowledge. I like the lore abt the Trickster and the war in heaven and how the creators were tricked and locked away.

In addition, if it is sum ancient elven ruins--Arlathan, or not--I would expect there to be something important there to help us figure out wth is going on and how to stop it. The elves were in Thedas long before humans, so they would have sum extensive knowledge that may help us.

If any of it managed to be saved, that is.

There had to have been more than one ancient Elven city right? Perhaps this is just a different city.

Maybe we could find an old manual for Arcane Warrior in those ruins. It would be a nice way to reintroduce that specialization.

Arlathan was the name of city and the country. The legend does not specify which the Tevinter buried. Could have been the entire land.

The ruins in the Brecellian Forest seemed to be elven. There's statues of elven gods and "ghosts" of elven children inside. As well as a room for an elven ritual. Tamlen also said the artifact that the scavengers found in the Dalish Origin had written elvish in it.

And since the Eluvian is elven and was also found in those same ruins, it would seem that they were elven ruins.

Nope the ruins in Brecillian forest were of Tevinter origin. Morrigan points out how odd it is, since the Tevinter Imperium never actually stretched so far. Which also makes it odd why the Juggernaut armor set is found in the Brecillian forest (And the ghosts use the human model).

The ruins in the Brecillian forest are full of elven artifacts and writtings (both in the Dalish Origin and later). The later ruins also had humans and elves cohabiting the place hiding from something outside.

There is a big difference between a characters believing something is from a specific nation and it being true. Example, Duncan thinking the Eluvian was Tevinter in origin.

Kinloch Hold (Lake Calenhad Tower, the Circle Tower) is another example. Some claim it was build by Tevinter, but other lore entries says it was built by dwarves for the Avvars. It use the same architectures has the Brecillian forest ruins and Ostagar too. Of course it could be dev lazyness, but the concept art in the op even have similar dome like structures (lost in the vegetation).

Damn. Ok, I could see one city buried by blood magic, but an entire freaking country!?!? If that is how it played out, those ancient magisters could probably wipe the floor with modern day Tevinter.

It may be underground ruins, true, but if we can find one access point, we could go explore it.

If they really buried an entire country (which I personally doubt it), they'll probably used thousands of slaves for the spell. The modern magister probably aren't eager to sacrifice so many slaves, considering that it'd probably be quite a disaster for their fragile economy.

According to Merrill they did: "The stories tell us that all elvhen once had the gift; but like so many things, it was lost."

I believe Jedi is referencing the elven ruins from the Dalish Origin, which are in the Brecillian Forest.

Was probably true of humans too, and maybe even dwarves long long long ago. Remember this line?

"One day the magic will come back, all of it. Everyone will be just like they were. The shadows will part and the skies will open wide. When he rises, everyone will see."

If magic coming back will turn everyone "like they were", then that means that everyone used to have magic.

Or just that they were a certain way. It doesn't state that everyone had magic just because it comes back to those who did.

So hey... Could Arlathan actually be the Black City? Like the Magisters actually sent the city to the Fade, it got corrupted, and later the Magisters revisited it and got corrupted too and brought the taint back with them?

And maybe that is just the Fade half of the city and the physical half really is in a secret part of the Deep Roads. Maybe the Darkspawn originated from the sunken city of Arlathan, considering the Darkspawn started underground. Or maybe the ancient section that the red lyrium and the idol came from WAS Arlathan and we just didn't know it... Would explain why the place is so different from typical Dwarven-made places.

I admit, I'm throwing a lot of random guesses right now.

Their attitude is mainly to maintain their culture, religious beliefs, and their heritage. I don't see what 'sucks' about that. The clans are diverse; the people we've met are fairly different; it's not as though all the Dalish are the same, or anything like that.
