Stop announcing characters. It just shows that this game's selling point is characters, not story or gameplay, and that characters are going to supercede good writing and gameplay. Again.

I want them to announce characters AND gameplay AND story.  Like it or not, many people play Bioware games for the well written characters and interactions with companions.  So they should announce them or at least tease characters because it's a big draw for many of their customers.  Just like they should continue to announce gameplay and story updates.

Both is fine, just not characters exclusively. It's be nice if they kept surprises (Jack is a girl? Fenris is from my favorite anime?!) to a minimum, and for the love of god, stop re-using characters in a transparent bid for more money.

I feel like I'm one of the few people who really couldn't care less about the Grey Warden guy. That sort of veteran gruff male warrior archetype has been done. to. death. And we already know all about the Grey Wardens from Origins and Awakening, so we don't even get any new world building from him. They really couldn't have showed a charcter concept that would interest me less if they tried.

I suppose on the plus side it means I'll have a companion who I won't mind never taking with me, leaving room in my party for the more interesting characters. I fully admit it's wrong to judge him on what little we know, but I find that archetype so dull.

I have mad respect for him since you had the balls to stand up to his psycho Knight-Commander. Something not even the grand cleric could do. As a pro-mage, I saw Cullen as one of the most sympathetic characters. Since he's slowly recovering of the Broken Circle incident, I see Cullen as a lawful good charcter who merely wants to keep order and people safe. If influenced right, he can resort back to his old self before Uldred. More importanrly,  he alot of potential to be a love interest, it was already established that he had a crush of F!Amell. Or simply, he's attractive.

You don't understand Grand Cleric Elthina, at all. She could have easily told Meredith what for, she just believed that it was not her place, that the Maker would prefer she take no sides.

As for Cullen, when Meredith went mad NO ONE was on her side. Cullen was strongly influenced by Hawke, anyway. If you become Viscount/ess, he bows to you, if you don't he's afraid of fighting you, and he and the rest of the templars stand down and let Hawke to leave. And Hawke being ready to face Meredith, he had the confidence to stand up to her as well. He had a limit to how far he could go with Meredith, and that's going beyond controlling mages (i.e. controlling people's lives, even non-mages).

We don't even know what Cullen was like before Uldred. He was meek, and inexperienced as a templar - and he is interested in females - but that doesn't give us any insight into what he was like personally. We have no idea how he came to be a templar, either. All we can say is that he sympathised with mages (which is probably how he fell for the mage Warden).

I don't see how your opinions on his appearance have anything to do his personality.

On topic: I hope we don't get Cullen, Cole, or any other major book character. That doesn't mean I don't want them to appear in the game, it just means I don't want them to be companions. Who says Cole can't appear in the game without being a companion?

I would like for Shayle to be a companion, but we already have a dwarf, and I doubt we'd be able to romance one dwarf AND have another dwarf companion. Hopefully BioWare has given us less human companions, and more elf and dwarf (at most, we'd likely have 1 Qunari/kossith, since their people are far different from the other 3 races) companions. I reckon that Shayle Cadash will appear in the game, at least if you play a dwarf, even if she isn't a companion.

This.

This, again. Once they start spilling an overabundance of story\\character info I'll bail on the boards. I hate spoilers and this forum will become a wasteland of chatter I don't want to see as my faith in spoiler free board topics is very low.

No

I don't think that's as bad of an idea as you might think it is, and this is coming from someone who's not particularly fond of him. One of Alistair's biggest detractors was his lack of wisdom. He tended to come of as a sheltered child who'd never really experience life outside his own precious little bubble (this is not a complaint that he should have been better written, he was written perfectly for what what he was meant to be, I just didn't like what that was). The thing about wisdom, however, is that it tends to be a thing you gain with age. I think an older and wiser version of Alistair could make for a very interesting companion.

I'm honestly not sure.

I do find it funny how a lot of people go ''all new please, but off course my own personal favorite can return''.

Purely speculation but from the concepts we've seen I'm more thinkin he's someone who's been estranged with the Wardens, maybe because he looks kind of older and might be approaching his calling. I've got an image in my head of him joining the Inquisitor to try and do something with the time he has left. Maybe as a mentor sort.

Probably with a sense of humour despite it too, judging by that tavern concept art.

I was actually thinking the other day that since the original Alistair was supposed to have been a grizzled veteran perhaps the idea might have been rethought in a way that could work.  Just on the image of an older warden laughing in a tavern, really.  A speculation I'm diverting myself with while I while away the months.....until next week.

I just have to say this, but this is the moment where his character lost all sympathy for me. I don't ever want to have him anywhere near a organisation I should build.

As for me. I like spoilers, I won't buy this game unless it is spoiled for me, so the sooner we get more information the better. I don't even care what it ism characters, gameplay... story. I just want to know.

Cullen, for all the female players. Because we all know there has to be at least 1 handsome, romanceable male in DA:I.

I question how they will actually reveal the characters. I'd be okay with a few screenshots and a blurb on the website, but I hope they don't give away too much.

I know some people consider even that too much. I don't really mind knowing who the companions are as long as I don't know everything about them. I mean, the character blurbs they gave for DA2 companions were fine.

For instance, this is Merrill's:

"It’s a Keeper’s job to remember, even the dangerous things."

"The Keepers of the Dalish are the masters of ancient lore and guardians of old secrets. Merrill can recite all of known elven history and navigate the Fade… but has very little experience with the world or even her own people. Now in a foreign land, surrounded by dangers on all sides, Merrill must find help for her clan. Whatever the cost."

I like getting enough information to get me interested, but not enough to really spoil anything.

Considering the companion leakes at the end of 2012(while knowing that biowares plans who the companions will be may have changed) i would like sera (I'm not a fan of the look of the both female companions and want a more "classic" good looking female as a li) or the tevinter magister to be announced.

I hope it's a guy. I'd like it to be Cullen, but I'd also be interested in the Beard, or the Iron Bull--if any of them are actual companions.

But we already know Cass and Viv are companions and potential LI's. I'd like to see what guys may be companions and potential LI's.

Besides Varric cuz I already know him, and I don't think he's a candidate for any kinda romance. Sooo...yeah.

Not for this female player.  I don't mind Cullen - he just never moved me one way or the other.  I even have the Cullen romance mod installed to add a few extra lines of dialogue to the mage origin and have pursued every dialogue option I could find in both games.  Because there are quite a lot of active Cullen fans (look at the Cullen thread on the Origins forum) I suspect he'll make an appearance.  I hope he's not a companion, honestly.  I'd much rather see a new character than a retread of for what for me was a flat tire.
