Oh, by "potential" in this case, I mean they could be LI's. Not that they are LI's, and you choose one to romance.

I've seen this in several places here on the forum.
Is there a particular reason that people think the "bald elf" character is named Dorian?

Only that a bald elf who looks like a mage appears in concept art and a mage named Dorian was mentioned in the leaked survey that's been discredited. Sometimes a discredited rumor is more influential than logic.

Some People speculate that the Tevinter magister names Dorian in the survey leak has been changed in the bald elf (or substituted by him).David Gaider wrote...

I honestly think the majority thinks that it's just a theory.daveliam wrote...
I think people are just making a leap with the bald elf/Dorian thing. Given that "Dorian" (a mage) was mentioned in the character survey (even given the warning that this has out of date information) and the "bald elf" (a mage?) shows up in the concept art, people seem to have put those two together and, like a lot of other things, supposition has turned into "fact" somehow.

It's just a handle until ppl know more. If he even is a companion. I (and others) call him "Elfy McSmuggins" cuz of the smug look on his face in the War Room concept art. Obviously, we don't think that's his real name. Right?
I think "Dorian" is shorter.

I hope we find out more about Dorian (if he's still in the game, if that is still his name, and whatever he looks like) - just because the tiny bio in the marketing survey was so intriguing. I also like a good Oscar Wilde reference, and really want to learn about Tevinter.

Both Beardy and McSmuggins look like interesting characters to me. Beardy seems to be a tough, grizzled Grey Warden with a sense of humor. A real fun guy to be around, and a great guy to have at your side during battle. McSmuggins could either be an elven mage or rogue that acts... smug, maybe sarcastic or cocky. Perhaps both.
In short, both possible companions pique my curiosity.
As you can see, we don't know a lot about them, as my descriptions are mostly speculation and wishful thinking based off of two pictures. I would love it if we were given some of their background information -- where are they from, what's their class, etc. -- for us to speculate further upon. I would even be happy with Bioware just telling us their names. I want to know their names!

Come on Gaider you should know we stick on to rumor and misinformation like some sort of sucker fish or sea parasite.
at least until someone comes in to disprove it.
Tho can we say that we are going to get a bald elf, just wont be named Dorian? lol

The leaked survey hasn't been discredited. It's been rather vindicated really, what with the name of the game and what we've learnt of the plot.
Of course stuff in it may well turn out to be wrong, what with plans changing or whatever.

They're just wording, "don't bring back characters," wrong. Bringing back Merrill, instead of a new character, was cheap in DA2. We barely had any contact with Merrill in origins, so writing her character was no easier than coming up with a new one, but they just HAD to bring back memories of the dalish elf start. Bringing back Cullen in DA:I would be just as cheap. It's a very transparent bid for nostalgia.Rpgfantasyplayer wrote...
I don't understand people when they saw they don't want returning companions and then point out Cullen.

I think this is quite unduly cynical, actually.
Though there's certainly an element of keeping familiar characters around, the process for picking companions mandates that they have both a place in the current story and that they can be used as a conduit to present something interesting. You can debate how successful that was in DA2's case, but the intention remains valid.
For someone like Cullen, the fact that he's seen and survived the very worst of magical corruption and Templar power abuse is a pretty interesting area to explore - particularly if they do something like examine the nature of someone who believes in the system when the system is falling apart all around him. There's depth to the character after minor appearances in two games, which is not something they could easily do with a new person.
Besides - if they wanted to indulge everyone's nostalgia and cater to fan demands out of a transparent desire for quick sales, why not follow the loudest voices and make Morrigan a party member, or Alistair, or make the protagonist the Warden? There are clearly good narrative reasons for doing none of those things, and to my mind the writers seem to fight pretty hard for what works best for the story, not just what will have the most appeal or gain the most sales.

Reading about Orlais and what happens to the Chantry just screams at me that we'll be seeing her...
Just a gut feeling.
