But when I started playing Republic classes, I had no idea who the companions were. So it was more of a "hey this guy's cool, I hope he stick around. Sweet! He does!"
In hindsight, I prefer the latter. So I hope they don't release a bunch of companion previews.

I don't want to know how we will run into them, or recruit them. Or too much abt their personalities...too much. Okay a lil abt the personalities. lol!
But not much more.

Sooo, I wonder how changed any of the other characters we've run into, and even had as companions will be?

I recently did a Dalish origin pt in DAO. Wow!, did Merrill change! It's like she wasn't the same character at all. Just in name and Dalish origin. That's it. Well, and her interest in the mirror, and knowledge.

I really hope that those kinds of massive changes are done now. Consistency is good, and those "changes" were really just retcons. I'm not against change in the sense that it's been a while and life has affected a person (as it does), but no more saying "we've decided that the Dalish have always had Scottish accents and Merril has always been like that". Apperance is one thing with changing graphic designs and engines, but personality should be left alone to evolve naturally. If Varric is more serious now, it should be because of all the chaos(like a less-extreme example of the Anders change), not just because BioWare says so.

I hope its the bald elf/Dorian!
I've seen this in several places here on the forum.
Is there a particular reason that people think the "bald elf" character is named Dorian?
Only that a bald elf who looks like a mage appears in concept art and a mage named Dorian was mentioned in the leaked survey that's been discredited. Sometimes a discredited rumor is more influential than logic.
Nothing's been discredited and it has nothing to do with "logic", referring to a character by an assumed name is a lot better than saying "concept art elf". Guess you couldn't resist being snide, though.

Once they decided to go with a more Irish/Welsh theme for the Dalish, they even had a new VA as well. My idea was that she became so fixated on the mirror that it changed her. Of course, that doesn't explain why she seemed generally accepted by the clan in Origins, yet talks about barely being tolerated her whole life in DA2.

Varric's probably still got his quick wit, but I'm betting it's tempered with sadness. He's seen a lot, and lost a lot of friends along the way. He'll be funny sure, but I think we'll see more serious moments from him.
Cassandra's softening towards Hawke made me start to like the character. I was worried she'd be just the one-trick interrogator, but she showed dimension towards the end.
Personally, I'm waiting for the moody-rebel mage to show up (Morrigan, Alistair,) and the overly sexual rogue (Zevran, Isabella.) Viv seems pro-Circle and while Varric is fun, he isn't the super flirty type. At least not with Hawke. They could change this for female dwarves, but somehow I don't think he'll be a LI.
"Dorian" aka McSmuggles looks like he could be interesting. Well, based upon fan speculation on who he might be (a liberal Tevinter mage? Sounds neat.) You guys realize that now that Mr. Gaider has seen the name, he'll probably not name a companion with that. He's admitted to streaks of being contrary because...well, he can. :innocent:

I'd be fine with 5 out of 9, but I wouldn't want 6 out of 9 because it's too skewed, in my opinion.
The same reason why I don't like the limited female companions in DA 2. If you play a male mage Hawke, then the only females you have with you are Aveline, Merrill, and Isabela (out of 8 companions). And, it's not uncommon to lose Isabela at the end of Act 2, leaving you with only 2 females.
I'd prefer for them to keep a balanced mixture of males and females, as well as a mixture of classes and races. I like the variety in the typical Bioware "diverse cast" with companions.

I hope they don't announce any more characters. I'd rather not know anything about the characters in the game before I play it.
I'd rather they released detailed mechanical information, instead. Or background lore.

Okay now because of you i want him to just be called Mister Dramatic Hands. I'd have that guy in my party all the time regardless of his abilities just because of that cool handle. In fact it's best if he doesn't fight at all but just runs around the battlefield raising his hands dramatically for commentary's sake, maybe while saying "ouh la la !" (we're in Orlais, right ?).

So we have "Beardo" The Warden and Mr. Dramatic Hands. "Iron Bull" doesn't seem so ironic as a name to me anymore.
