If I was given the option, for these sci-fi setting games, my first and canon character is usually Asian like myself. I create characters from other races afterwards.
Same here. I played all 3 as myself lol. Then I died in the ending!

*Cyrus Shepard: Gujarati (Indian)
Amir Shepard: Coptic (Egyptian)
Andrash Shepard: Magyar (Romanian)
Arkay Shepard: English (New Zealander)
*Maya Shepard: English (Australian)
Louise Shepard: Gaelic (Franco-Canadian)
May Shepard: Han Chinese (Singaporean)
Rhea Shepard: English (UK)
There are two or three more, but I never bothered to create backstories for them. Some Shepards also have "colonial" identities, but the colonization was recent enough that Earth-based ethniticies are still somewhat relevant. While their ethnicities give them more or less colorful backstories, none of them base their identities on their ethnicities though, since they're all dedicated to human-settled territory in general, regardless of whether their ideologies are closer to the Alliance's or Cerberus'.
Edit:
It just occurred to me that I have all continents almost equally covered: two Europeans, two Australians, two Asians, one American and one African. Hmm....if I ever play ME again, I might venture to create the missing two: a South American and a black African.

My MainShep (Colonist) is Chinese/English on her mother's side of the family and French/Korean on her father's side. Her name has a double meaning - "golden one" in Korean and "royally brave" in English.
My first Shepard (Earthborn) is mostly Georgian and Russian - where he was born and raised, respectively. I always liked to imagine that his gang, the Reds, got their name from Red Square. He also has a smaller percentage of German and Irish, and even Middle Eastern many generations back. Basically, looking at a world map, all of his ancestors ended up travelling to the same place - some went north, some went east, and everyone met up around Russia.

I really wish I had the ability to do accents for PC's, because I think FemShep would be better with one. I have, with my one FemShep, the cannon that she's half English/Australian and half Canadian.

As I've said, my Sheploo is American (and not any of that continental stuff, I mean United States American) because 'Murikah!' He's from Los Angeles, my own state of birth, though I'm debating to have him grow up in either Seattle or Chicago.

Blame the voiced PC.
As much as I like Hale, you got a good point there.

I'm always tempted to make an Native American, Hispanic, and Aboriginal Shepards but I never can force myself to do it.

I love Meer's voice. Suits my Shepard perfectly. I do not like Jennifer Hale's Shepard voice. It's too gruff, too masculine for me.
I like voiced PC's.
I think a cool idea would be to have the ability to choose an accent or voice in the character creation menu. It'd be a bit unfeasible to implement, but I'd imagine it'd be something people would dig.

California accents don't have much of a discernible change from Midwestern accents, which are basically what most Canadian accents are. It's a General American accent he has. It'd fit in fine in LA.
Of course, I wouldn't expect an Australian to understand this...

Sheploo so white, but I like to think he's mixed with something that gives him his nice tan.
Well he's either mixed or he makes tanning appointments on the Citadel between missions.
Lol, his model is 100% Dutch, so he totally spray tans in between missions. He's a huge fan of vintage reality shows like Jersey Shore.
It seriously boggles my mind that they made him so dark.
lol! I'm actually glad they made him dark even though the model is Dutch. I love the idea of him being mixed so it helps with my headcanon.

That's a pretty impressive custom Shep you got there.Obrioneg wrote...
