what's the problem with the x-ray laser nuke? it works fine theoretically. also, in layman's terms, laser pumping is a transfer of energy from a source (in this case the nuclear explosion) to a laser emitter (in this case x-ray lasers).
so, in theory, this weapon is simply a massive x-ray burst followed by a conventional nuclear explosion. and as you can probably imagine, emitters powered by the initial stage of a nuclear explosion are going to produce some VERY intense x-rays.

EDIT: from there I suppose the only argument is how effective such a weapon would be against the reapers.

Lots of things work fine theoretically.

First of all, the entire point of putting the energy into a laser is being able to do damage at range. This nuke is not going to hit the Reaper. The entire set-up would be mounted on a ship or sattalite or something far away.

Secondly, would it produce intense X-rays? Compared to modern weapons? Probably. Compared to the thanix guns and mass accelerators powered by fusion reactors? I seriously doubt it.

Anything we can do, they can do better.

Exactly. We'd have to use the entire inventory in one strike against a handful of Reapers just to have a measurable chance of success.

It's certainly not a magic bullet.  It's not even a magic wand.  But it would certainly do much to level the playing field.  Reapers couldn't rely on massive kinetic barriers to make them nigh-invulnerable.  Just getting one to explode near a Reaper could do damage to them.

It's a nuclear weapon.  Close counts Image IPB
Also, if a mere human like Joker can outfly a drone, an onboard VI should stand a chance, at least Image IPB

Kinetic barriers don't block x-rays.

Slugs from dreadnaughts do more than nuclear bombs today. It's not as big of an advantage as one would thing.

Why don't we just send Liara into the Mother Reaper and press restart button on the system? Shit seems viable, no?

OR

We send in Liara with a few nuclear weapons

She can get a heroe's death, and I don't have to ever put up with her again

win-win

Liara can't be more heroic than Shepard. She CAN'T. Liara is only there to have Shepard's babies.

The whole point of using a nuclear weapon is to release energy in thermal or radiative(light) form, that Kinetic barriers can't defend against.

But those are mass accelerated weapons.  Reaper barriers can handle those.

The form the enegry takes is important here.

Nah, then we'll be waiting for it for 10 years.

Thermal energy is light energy, and even using light energy, we're assuming that the Reapers can't stand up to that, or that no one(Protheans) has tried it before us, and they nuked their own planets.

Liara dying a martyr's death is a no-no for me.

Better she die ungloriously from a shot to the face and thrown in a ditch.

thanix cannons are classified as energy weapons, therefore they should be able to slice through a reaper as if it had no shields at all. and considering the fact that fighters are supposedly able to mount thanix cannons, this means that theoretically a single fighter could destroy a reaper (obviously it would have to avoid drones and AA fire and then score a direct hit on the reapers reactor)

Reapers don't fire lasers, and Thanix cannons are small versions of Soverign's cannon, so how is it an energy weapon? It's a stream of molten metal.

Let's not get all technical here, Reapers are unstoppable, beyond our comprehension, god-like. We should have just thrown up our hands and ran away to a different galaxy, screaming like little girls.
