Stuffed the dragonbone Topsider's Honor with Cold Iron runes (two GM, one master) and thought I had made the ultimate revenant-slaying tool. With vanilla undead the +34 floaty showed up as expected but against revenants it didn't work at all. Against none of them; neither the Black Vial ones nor the Brecilians nor Gaxkang. What gives?

Playing on PC, fully patched up, in case it matters.

Revenants are not categorized as undead in the game engine. Nor are arcane horror and abomination. Weird.

Yes, really weird. I mean, revenants and arcane horrors are supposed to be the elite undead according to the in-game lore.

OTOH it is not really surprising in a game that classifies brontos as 'human'..

In any case it's a pity that the runes don't work, because I wanted to wreak horrible revenge on revenant-kind for the harrowing battles that my first toon had to endure (Brecilian Forest right after Lothering, LOL). The blade was quite useful in Redcliffe, though, for cutting down most of the undead before they got near the kill-stealing bunch of nutters that you have to keep alive...

Except for revenant #6 (the random encounter with the portcullis in Denerim) I think most of the revenants can be postponed for later when you have more tools to combat them with. I know they scale with you but it helps having a bunch of skills to throw at them. I can tell you they are immune or resistant to cold based attacks even on the lower difficulties. They're meant to be tough. I usually try to root them in place with paralyze then pound them with stone fist and other physical attacks.

Yes, the fact that you can keep the phylacteries on ice (including the Denerim one, with careful travel planning and a bit of luck) is what gave me the idea to turn Topsider's Honour into a nice revenant-slaying tool by way of Cold Iron runes. Which didn't work, unfortunately.

On the other hand, revenants have suprisingly low attack rating, compared to their defence and other characteristics which make them veritable little mini-bosses in every other regard. However, the low attack means that they simply can't hit a proper tank or a higher-DEX rogue, making the fights trivial as long as you manage to safely stash way the rest of the party somewhere out of sight.
