I thought I saw somewhere on this board that the drone is ignored by praetorian, but on my insanity engineer run in horizon the praetorian kept swinging between me and the drone and attacking neither. When it eventually attacked I just recast the drone and the same thing happened. Easiest praetorian fight ever, even compared with the sentinel.

So is this normal behavior? Playing on ps3.

Strange, I thought it and the Occulus focused on Shepard. (Although I have seen the Occulus occasionally decide to take out one of my squadmates.)

I can confirm with my own playthrough that a Praetorian will stop attacking you to look at your drone.

The drone can also render the Oculus completely harmless.

Note that the quality of these videos may be low. This was before I got an HD television and rendered my videos properly for YouTube.

(Edit: I looked at these on YouTube and they looked like mud. You may or may not have to adjust the video quality settings to make it look presentable. Or it may have just been my browser acting up again).

The engineer drone in ME2 renders many otherwise tough enemies a turkey shoot. Works great on YMIRs (and at least divides the attention of the Praetorians).

About the easiest insanity run I ever had was with a build similar to the "puppet master" described by RedCaesar. If you get Legion early on, you can run some maps with three simultaneous drones, one or more AI hacked mechs, and a dominated organic. It's absolutely hilarious. I tried this strategy in ME3, but was sadly denied by the new game mechanics (which seem to favor casting powers over subversion tactics).

I think the Oculus and Praetorian AIs react to Drones a bit inconsistently. Always be careful around those.

I just finished the Praetorian fight, so I thought I would relate my experience. When I cast a drone the Praetorian would occasionally take a look at it, but then it swung back around so fast that the brief diversion hardly mattered. Its attention was taken off Shepard for just a fraction of a second. So I wouldn't count on being able to use a drone to distract it.

it's attack is similar to the collector particle weapon. The longer it's on you, the worse off you are. I'll use small break to counter between attacks, if he's far enough away. It's not like your typical "lift up out of cover to attack" strategy. It's best to anticipate when the Praetorian will swivel. It'll generally pivot right after being attacked by your drone. So check out the data on attack rates on your skills upgrade/lvl up page, and get a rough..intuitive sense for your drones attack timing.

IMO, Where the drone really helps is when the praetorian is close to you on the collector ship, and you're trying to run back to the ramp. Granted, I haven't been looking behind me to observe and document what's really going on, since I'm desperately fleeing the large wide open space in the girliest fashion you can conjure. However, I can't recall dying there when I've had the ability to use drones(either myself, team8 or both).

Sometimes a drone can screw up the Praetorian's AI so much that it basically just spins in place without shooting, much like how RedCaesar97 showed with the Oculus. In my experience, Drones affect boss enemies inconsistently.

I also noticed that the drone sometimes sets off the Praetorian's little tantrum dance (followed by restoration of its full barrier). This may be counterproductive to taking it down… (nope, see below)

Correction.  I just reviewed footage of 5 different Praetorian battles with and without combat drone. It appears the drone does NOT set off additional cycles of the Praetorian's barrier (which occur spontaneously at ¾, ½, and ¼ armor). In contrast, squadmates near the Praetorian will set off additional cycles, so best to keep them away from it.  (I was initially fooled because I had a run where the drone seemed to set it off, but on more careful examination it turns out it was actually Miranda...)
