What 'Blanket' plot do you think BW will use to cover all fans end choices?

I think you brought up an interesting idea. I can see Bioware moving away from enormous, galactic threats and focusing on political factions. The only problem with this is that the main enemy may be way to similar to Cerberus. However, now that indoctrination is no longer a thing there could be some fantastic role-playing opportunities when it comes to various ideologies. Contrast this to the Shepard trilogy where extreme pragmatism is discouraged by the indoctrination plot device.

100% agreed. Been thinking that for the better part of a year, at least.

Exactly. And they really need to do away with the morality system. Or at least change it so that it doesn't favor one side or the other.

I was always hoping for political intrigue to begin with. That's truer to space opera than giant threats. I knew soon enough that Sovereign and the Geth would be part of Mass Effect, but I was really hooked when talking to the grumbling Volus on the Citadel. Heh

I'm a big fan of the 'conflict over rebuilding relays', with a post-time-skip conflict centering on a the prospect of a new relay network and a struggle between those who want to rebuild the relays and Council system (and, in essence, place themselves at the top of the pecking order) versus those who oppose a new relay system (vested interests in the slow-FTL trade routes, those fearful of invasion or domination). Call it a post-relay Council vs. Terminus war.

Such a conflict, since it would arbitrarily decide what sectors of space it was in and what relays are repaired or not, could pretty easily reflect the non-ending choices. Since there's no reason to return to the Geth, Quarians, Krogan, or Rachni as primary plot-relevant species, they can largely and easily be kept off-screen regardless, with token representatives to reflect their new role. Geth/Quarians, for example, could be largely isolationist at Rannoch as they pursue self-development/repopulation, with only a relatively few travelers reflecting their role in the wider galaxy (helping evacuate AIs to reduce conflict/hunting AIs to prevent AI conflicts/promoting co-existence).

Whereas in a context in which the Krogan are being sought after as a military ally, the Krogan could be either the last remnant army of the genophaged race, all females dead and looking for a last battle, or a currently introspective empire in the distance. The prospect of the genophage-less Krogan empire concerns the galaxy, whether the Krogan are internally focused on cultural development (Wrex) or building their strength for conquest (Wreave). Regardless of the three outcomes, Tuchanka is distant and offscreen and the Krogan only serve a token army role.

And so on. Picking an ending scenario would let you address the main trilogy choices without letting those choices dominate the new plot. Even after a couple of centuries, the Quarian population is going to be small- no reason they need to be a cornerstone species of the next epic.

Maybe the next game can end with a big debate scene, like WC4? OK, Seether's an endboss, but the's not the Big Bad.

I don't think they're going to do a save import at all.

Neither do I.

They aren't saying much about the next game, but the little that has been said seems to point at something other than a sequel. Given Walters' statement that the next game won't be linked in any way to the 'Shepard events,' the next game appears to be either a prequel or alternate universe. Or if it is set in the same universe and either during or after the Shepard trilogy on the timeline, for whatever reason the main characters are cut off from and unaware of the events of the Reaper War.

I'm a big fan of a refuse ending canon, where you play the human version of Javik.

Disregard Synthesis, then just have the galaxy rebuilt and not mention how it happened, is my guess.

Still, I'd advocate Destroy as the ideal canon, myself. The actual rebuilding of the galaxy, if not left to the Reapers, could bring up some interesting plot points.

On the other hand, they might have to make it so far in the future that none of it even matters, because importing from ME3 onwards is just not happening. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it does, even if it's literally just about the Krogan and Quarian choices. Can't ask for more than that really.

In Synthesis, you could say that the Reapers left after the younger races started Quabling and fighting eachother. They wern't the Catalyst and didn't want to take sides so they left, possibly for another galaxy. The green glow faded over time as the Reapers left.

In Control, the Shepard AI decided it's power was too great to share with the Council and decided it was best not to intervene in minor conflicts and instead decided to leave, taking the Reapers with him/her/it.

In Destroy the different species salvaged inactive Reaper tech and advanced to a level similar to the other alternatives.... and so on and so forth... And then you got the rebuilt Geth that lacks all the lifeexperiences of the old Geth and goes on a murderous rampage, repeating the pattern of the past. Because they never learned since they were never there. Neither did their organic masters learn their lession.

*If* Bioware ever made a sequel that carried over only one canon ending, it would most likely either be High EMS Destroy or Synthesis. High EMS Destroy was far and away the fan favorite, and Synthesis appears to have the darling of the writing team. Or at least the darling of ME3's lead writers.

Refuse you can outright rule out. Its DLC only and ends with humanity extinct.

They'll never touch Synthesis again.

Nobody has any idea what the hell Synthesis actually is. Including the writers, frankly. They couldn't even talk about it coherently for a, what, 60 second cutscene? There's no way they'd be able to write an entire game incorporating it. And they know it. They know they don't have any answers and what they came up with is nonsense.

I hope you're right.

Given the mess ME3's leads produced with the original endings to ME3 however, I'm not as confident.
