Isn't Crysis 2 going to have inferior graphics to the first one for the sake of console ports?

That is my fear but I'm pretty sure the PC is still the lead platform, so it really depends on their intentions.

I don't think anyone actually got Crysis for its riveting gameplay...

Hell, most people I knew bought, put the settings on max, went "Oooh! Aaah!" and promptly returned it. Seriously, it was a disgustingly underwhelming game.

I thought that before they patched the game the MP was some of the best I had ever played but after they made it take 3-4 strength punches to kill someone and added crap like the nade indicators I began to lose interest. I loved the single player part though, still install Crysis and Warhead from time to time just to barrel through them.

I thought Crysis played pretty much exactly the same as FarCry.

FarCry wasn't a bad game but it just felt all too Deja Vu. It was similar to the feeling I got playing Resident Evil 4.

Resident Evil 4 was a fantastic game, one of my all time favorites but Resident Evil 5 just made me feel burnt out.

Yea FarCry was alright but I just played through it thinking it would be so much better with iron sights, I'm really not fond of static cross-hair zoom or whatever.

The Winter Olympics

I'm with you on that one... Canada is bringing home the gold in men's hockey, mark my words

It's the skating that always has me glued to the TV, speed- and figure- both. Being that I live in Seattle, I'm obviously pullin' for our own local Apolo Ohno.

The winter Olympics is about as fun as shaving my butt crack hairs with a blow torch.

Mass Effect 2 is number one without question.

Dragon Age: Awakening, i'm looking forward to as well.

For non-Bioware games, hmmm....Alan Wake, Heavy Rain, The Last Guardian, and Red Dead Redemption. Also the theoretical Zelda game which is currently supposed to be a Holiday release. We'll see how that works out.

Definates:
Dragon Age: Awakening
Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising

Likelies:
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (not sure if it's still in production though)

Would be nice (but probably not going to happen - not enough time):
Dante's Inferno
Dark Stalkers
God of War 3

Frankly, I don't care about StarCraft 2 anymore. Or Diablo 3. The time between announcement and (theoretical) release negated all possible inclination I had for playing those games.

I doubt crysis 2 will be graphically downgraded on PC because of consoles but it really depends how their engine works. The way they have it set up is to write once and play anywhere so in theory they could write it to perform on the pc then just scale it back to whatever works on the consoles, leaving the pc version with the initial high res textures and high poly count.

As for graphical lighting effects it should be almost trivial to implement them on pc even if they are absent on consolel. That is to say even if the PC and Console versions use the same resources (unlikely) you're still going to see things like the top lighting model + resolution + aa + view distance and lod on PC. Particularly, if textures and models take a hit that means there's room in memory for higher LOD further away. The kind of game it is (big open maps with the ability to see huge distances) as well as the way they've been talking up the engine makes it sound extremely possible to produce this kind of result.

The real question is, is it going to be significantly better looking than the original Crysis? The potential is there, but having already written the engine to use DX10 and DX9 code paths I wonder whether the effort is going to be there to take advantage of DX11 which is where I think you'll see most of the qualitative improvements through use of things like compute shaders to do things more logically and efficiently and tesselation to reduce geometry lod overhead. Even a partial implementation of a DX11 code path should allow them some really reasonable performance gains although I doubt they would use that to leverage any new tech in the engine, at least not for crysis 2.

Fallout: New Vegas is the only game I'm really looking forward to this year, though I'm not hugely keen on the game mechanics, hopefully the writing will make up for it.

Other than that, I'm cautiously keeping a beady eye on Alpha Protocol and Deus Ex 3. Both of which I think have the potential to be superb or absolute flops.

I think I'm going to put Brink and Dead Space 2 as some of the games I'm looking forward to.
