as far as I know they haven't said anything relating to when the next mass effect game will take place. personally, I feel a sequel is more likely. though I have no hard facts to back it up.

There has not been any confirmed, conclusive things said about Next-ME so far. There has been someone claiming to have seen details from the game stating it is post-war, but take it for what it is: unconfirmed.
I think the next big gaming conference is in march/april somewhere, so I doubt we'll hear anything prior to that at the very least. I think the earliest you can expect a release would be Q2 2015, but that's being very optimistic (basing that on the fact they started last year, and that they did extend DA:I to 2.5-3 years somewhere iirc).
