It depends on the situation and what I really choose to play. At least one mage healer and one warrior tank. Sometimes a rouge but most of the time what you get out of locked chests is just as bad as what you loot from a none locked one. Ideally I would have 2 mages (just because i play mage and don't play support) and one warrior with one that is out in the air as either warrior or rouge depending.

I believe there are too many mage spells to take with one mage and almost all of them are useful so usually one becomes a full healer/support the other one damage dealer with the crowd controls. Besides in both games mages are unmatched for their aoe damage while rouges are good with individual dps. Warriors are stick in the mud, normal with both aoe and single target dps but good at none, however they can tank which is their real value.

Sadly... this is all very true.

In DA2 warriors could take damage, and if they're Fenris, get their ass kicked by powerful attacks or excessive ranged attacks. Only the tank warrior and maybe a DPS warrior Hawke could successfully take hits. And when it came to dishing out damage, mages always do more damage to groups, and rogues always do more damage to single targets. All DPS warriors in 2 could do were tank (Hawke) or knock enemies around - all else, destroy pathetic critter enemies in groups.

If I were to give someone advice on choosing a class in Dragon Age 2, I would say this:

A mage is for beginners, because they are the easiest to use, and easiest to use well.
A rogue is for intermediate players, because they are the strongest, but require more skill than mages to use well.
A warrior is for advanced players, because they are the hardest to use, and require the most skill to use well.

My ideal party? 4 mages.

What I usually use? 1 mage(with heal spell), 2 rogues(one archer, other dual short swords) and a warrior(sword and shield.)

Same here but CC mage works better for me.

Varric's my forever rogue, he didn't leave my party at all in DA2.
So Varric + mages= pure pwnage.
Unless they changed the battle mechanics to make that somehow less of a winning combo, but Imma try it anyway.

It depends on what class and build i'm using, and it varies from there.

Right now in my current DAO playthrough 2 rogues a melee and a ranged, a warrior and a non healing mage.

If i'm a mage then it depends on my build 2 mages, 1 warrior, 1 rogue

If i'm a warrior it depends on my build 1 mage, 2 warriors, 1 rogue, or 2 mages, 1 warrior, and 1 rogue

DAI will give us some freedom with companions being only class restricted this time and that mages can wear heavy armour and might be able to use swords according to the devs in the crafting and customization on near the 30+ minute mark is where they say that but weren't to specific since they couldn't talk about mages could wear heavy armour and weren't sure if mages could sure swords.

Pretty much how I go about it as well. Either this or two Rogues and two Mages.

Warrior, rogue, mage, mage

Same as the previous DA games.

I wish the series supported bringing characters based on their personality instead of their class.

I believe it still hasn't been confirmed yet if we will have an extra party member that was rumored before. So that opens up to more customization of the party if its true.

Are you talking about a 5 person party, then no and there hasn't been anything about that either since there's only going to be a party of four.

Or are you talking about dlc companions, which is probably going to be possible and would bump the party member total to 10.

My first play-through will be

Rogue (me)
Tank (cass)
Mage heals
Mage DPS

Pretty much did this in DA:O and DA2...Wrynne and Morrigan wrecked face with storm of the century/firestorm while Allistar and I picked off anyone who would survive that mess.

For my first playthrough I usually just go by what party members I like best and just play on normal, at least for the first half or so. After that it just kind of depends on what class I'm playing and what best complements that. In Origins I preferred a DW warrior, so I usually just filled in with a tank warrior, healer, and ranged rogue or second mage. In DA2 I liked the dual wield rogue, so I usually just filled in with Aveline, Anders, and a rotation of Fenris, Varric, or Merril.

No, you're not. What I hate more than dlc though is people talking about dlc for a game that isn't even out yet. Image IPB
