I know the romance haters would like romances to be cut from ther game but Gaider shot those folks down months ago.

Doesn't really matter and the OP already know this

You're assuming they know it.

shrugs.

Make it like Dragon's Dogma where the romance option is a surprise.

I'm just going to say this, all the people who actually got the child romances in that game tried to do it.

I got some random blacksmith. I didn't even know who he was until I played it again.

On topic. I would, but I would see it as a very bad move and the beginning of something horrible. Seriously, do we really need more RPGs where we go off to save a world full of people we don't give a flying .... about?

Absolutely. Romances are a small part of the games, and if you buy these games just for romances then I don't understand why you are playing these games when you could be playing a dating sim.
Don't get me wrong I like having romances, but it is really not that huge of a factor to me.

Out of curiosity, do you ever shut up about this?

OT, yes.

No.

I've played through BioWare games before without taking a romance option and the games have all felt subpar because of it.

I absolutely hated that part of Dragons Dogma, I was playing as a dude(because I am one), and all of the sudden my guy is kissing this merchant guy. I was wondering what the hell was going on.
Despite this Dragons Dogma is a fantastic game, and I hope they are working on a 2nd.

We'd  still have our companions, who can became our friends. Romances aren't the only meaningful relationship we can have, and sometimes I enjoyed the friendship with certain companions more than the romances.

I don't really see how it would make the game feel subpar

Hell yes.
I like romances. But since I roleplay, I usually misses/unqualifies for all of them anyway. I'm quite used to go through RPGs without romance. I read about it instead. Image IPB

Yes.

I don't recall significant conversations with the romances anyway.

Nope....I would just read what happens plot wise. If I ever bought it at this point I would wait for a while for the price to drop considerably and MAYBE then I might buy it but probably not.

EDIT: Keep in mind I am a middle aged woman who really doesn't like or play video games that much. I played DAO and DA2 due to some odd circumstances and since them have tried other games without the romance options and they leave me bored to tears. KILL KILL, LOOT LOOT, KILL KILL, LOOT LOOT...the end.

Yes. Although, I'll freely admit that romances are why I'm such a fan of BioWare games. So I'd be massively disappointed.

'Awakening' worked sans romance. But it would have been better if it was included. ;)

But how long after they cut romances would it take for people to start complaining about "being forced" to have relationships with friends/rivals? You never actually have to do either, but it's seems like people feel that the resources devoted to relationships should be devoted to cutting the heads off of things.

i just can't believe anybody could play a 20-30 hours (at least) game just for the romance. how much content is a romance, like 20-30 min? what do you do with the other 98-99% of the game? i know some people can get really attached to their favourite LIs, but, seriously, i think the "not whihout my romance" kind of player is a myth, isn't it?

Arguably the biggest gaming wtf moment I've experienced. I sat there for a minute saying 'what?!' over and over again.

*flirt*flirt*flirt**some shocking thing is revealed during the relationship*I forgive you*we'll bang*

I can understand people liking romances, but I don't understand why Bioware is praised for theirs.

I enjoy the romances as well and it would be disappointing, but not deal-breaking, if they didn't include them.

That said, I'd love it if Bioware threw in one which was a nod to Skyrim's um... deep and engaging relationships. Just for the lols.

Even though they aren't a big deal for me, I do hope they improve on them

From what I saw in the (endless) debate about romances, most don't complain about being 'forced' to do romances. But I wasn't debating if it was right or wrong to cut romances. I responded to the part about 'full of people we don't care about' in your post. Cutting off romances wouldn't mean that there'll no be NPC we can care about.
