after replaying both dragon age and all dlc some theories has come to light but i spare you a book of talking yet i am wondering about one thing. could the maker be a powerful dreamer? if he was ever human, elf, etc. i know some will say the maker isnt real and etc,etc but if he was he might as well have been a powerful dreamer who fell in love with andraste and talk to her in her dreams just like it is told in dragon age origins also in dragon age 2 feynriel talks to orriana in her dreams and make bandits kill each other, and he is just a rookie dreamer who has been mastering his powers, imagine the most powerful one if the maker was one, he coould manipulate the fade and the world. something to think about even if some of you disagree.

I don't think we'll ever know exactly what the Maker is. It, he, or she could literally be anything or nothing.

I think this is the writing team's intent.

I guess we will just have to wait until the other games come out and see what he is if he even exist. hopefully nothing dissapointing or just too simple.  i wish the best to the story writer.

The Maker is established as a vague figure no one has any proof of existing except for random events and personal claims from mortals.

So take it with a grain of salt.

I am continually astonished at these attempts to discern the reality of the Maker. This is a classic "creator god" figure just as unknowable as the RL variants. It is obviously designed to stay in the realm of faith, with no conclusive evidence about what it might be, or even of its existence, ever manifesting.

Not that the DA story and world designers couldn't decide to change things in future, but I would be extremely surprised if they did.

I doubt we will know who the maker truly is anytime soon. However, didn't Bioware confirm the chantry's version of how darkspawn actually got created (that was supposed to be in the realm of myth), so maybe Bioware will decide to tell us who the maker is, you never know.

Some Tevinter magisters attempted to enter the (supposedly) Golden City and came back as darkspawn. We do not know if these were the first darkspawn, and neither do we know if the Maker had anything to do with the City.

The Chantry's version is an instructional tale based on some real events which were interpreted to suit the Chantry's belief system. RL religions do the same, and still it doesn't say anything about the nature of their gods.

The maker isn't anything but a name the people of Thedas use on something they can't comprehend. He doesn't exist.

You can equally ask what was the real nature of the elven gods. Could they have been dreamers who kept in contact and instructed their people through their dreams? Why did the reduction in elf lifespans correspond with the rise of the humans? What really caused the downfall of the great elven culture that they were unable to resist the rise of Tevinter.

It is interesting that when Sebastian is discussing their respective religions with Merrill, he makes the comment that he thinks they are both talking about the same thing with different names. So he would appear to think that the elven deities are simply different aspects of the Maker. Or may be they were simply powerful fade spirits since they would appear to embody different attributes required to live, such as hunting, care of the Hala, etc, just as we are told benign fade spirits embody different virtues and demons different vices.

Another interesting question that many would like answered at some point would be was Andraste really a powerful mage, as suggested by that book you find in Origins? Why do the priesthood of Haven, who pre-date the Chantry, assume that Andraste has returned in the form of a dragon? Who or what exactly was the Guardian of the Shrine?

I'm hoping that the current turmoil will allow access to archives and sites previously denied to the common man and that as a consequence we will be allowed a bit more insight into what really happened in the past.

The maker is an incarnation of absolute evil, and the golden city was a binding created by the dragon gods. The blight is the Maker's true form, and the tevinter imperium's foolishness released him upon the world once more. The Maker now focuses its energies on corrupting and controlling the dragon gods who tried to seal it away, as a form of revenge.

Crack theory, awaaaaaay!

I kinda hope the maker is a demon or a fade spirit, and Andraste a really powerful mage. Just for the irony of it.

“Just to be clear, I’m not a professional ‘quote maker’. I’m just an atheist teenager from fereldan who greatly values his intelligence and scientific fact over any silly fiction story told ages ago. This being said, I am open to any and all criticism and I think mages should be put down.

‘In this moment, I am euphoric. Not because of any phony Maker’s blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my cunning stat.
