Is it just me (aka I missed something / did something wrong) or is Ashley the most bland and boring squadmate in Mass Effect 3?

The three new squadmates (EDI, Javik and James, in order of uniqueness) each have their own story to tell. You learn by interacting with them. There are cutscenes and topics to explore.

But Ashley? Nothing. I tried talking to her after every mission, but no "traditional" cutscene conversation triggered. At least, none I can remember. On Mars she talked about not trusting me due to Cerberus, and then perhaps one more time aboard the Normandy about her not being sure and needing time, and of course the conversation during her hospital time, but thats it. There is the drunk and lying on the floor scene, and of course more for those who remained faithful to her and persue a relationship, but otherwise nothing.

The fierce tempered, almost Michelle Rodriguez kinda Ash is gone. Replaced by a sedated new character with girly hair and just looking pretty, but completely soulless on the inside.

Heck, even Steve Cortez was more interesting and likable.

EDIT: yeah, Kaiden. Lol I never liked having him around. He looks 100% like Robbie Williams.

And that is why you should have saved Kaidan on Virmire.

Yep. Too bad we couldn't have left them both back on Virmire...

But at least you can take them out during the Citadel Coup.

I also don't find either VS all that interesting. The only thing that they accomplish in ME3 is to slow down the pace of the game with all those hospital visits.

There is a fair bit of 'damaged' dialogue in Ashley's case. In particular the cafe romance conversation should go on longer but a glitch skips straight to the kiss.

Also, apparently most of her dialogue 'allowance' was used up before the Cerberus Coup. She does get a special scene down at the memorial wall with her sister... although that isn't much of a scene for Shepard, who's just there to lend support. And, again, there's recorded dialogue for that scene which doesn't play.

Ash is still talkative during missions, and I recommend holding onto the Turian Platoon missions until you have both her and Tali on board. Do the Turian bomb mission with Ashley and anyone that isn't Garrus, then head down to Engineering. You'll get a conversation between Ash and Tali that demonstrates character development for both of them.

She sucks in ME1, ME2, and ME3, though for entirely different reasons.

I don't think any squadmate is boring. Well except Legion, he bores the crap out of me.

Ashley has 8 cutscene conversations where the dialogue wheel comes up(10 if you include the 2 on Mars) in the main game. That's more than Javik, EDI, Tali or James have. Ashley is already an established character by the time of ME3, there's is nothing more about her story to learn about that we haven't already heard before.

It's like saying that all your close friends IRL are bland because you learn nothing new about them, what are they meant to do, pull some BS out of their backside? Completely change their personality and who they are? James, Javik and EDI were new squadmates, ofcourse you learnt new stuff from them.

Why I am even having to explain this? Seriously, the OP must think Garrus, Liara, Tali and Kaidan all suck too.

So you are seriously saying that you find Legion more boring than Jacob? That's an interesting perspective.

They're both not as colorful or dramatic as the characters they passed on (be it Jack, Grunt, Miranda, etc).. but they had to keep the promise of having the VS return somehow. Even Ash's poetry schtick is trumped by Thane. To me, he's kind of poetic all the time in regular dialogue.

I have no problem with the VS though, but it's too bad that this was the last game in the series. The way I see it, this was their last hurrah, and it could have done well with more variety and options. That way everyone's happy.

If they want her around though, I'd appreciate it if they fix her Marksman skill. That bug makes her a waste of time to have around, if you don't romance her.

Lol yes? I couldn't stand his dull robot voice the moment I heard it and didn't really listen to anything he was saying. Jacob did annoy me at times but I'd rather hear more of his dialogue than fracking Legion's. >.>

I love the way he talks. Even his insignificant lines stick in my head. "Shepard Commander! Heretic runtimes downloading to mobile platforms."

Yeah, Ashley seems like the creative vision for her character was never consistent. She was great in ME1, but her cameo in ME2 and her role in ME3 are both very lacking. Its sad, because I thought she was a great character in ME1, but her writing and direction really went off the rails.

Probably backlash from all the haters calling her a racist and a zealot. Now all we get is her standing in a corner looking pretty and talking about safe topics like her family instead of the tough-talking opinionated marine some of us actually liked.

If it makes you happy, Jack drops less F-bombs too. But it's not quite a big of a change. Ashley is female Kaidan now.

I don't know if it's backlash or the writers simply wussing out. Or maybe they all have kids now and want to write family friendly material. *shrug*

Ashley does not lack screen time in ME3 (compared to other characters), but most of them are wasted horribly. I remember a good amount of her dialogue revolves her youngest sister Sarah and her husband. That topic if I remember correctly shows up in almost 1/3 of all her conversations, and I don't know about you but to me I just don't care. I might care if it's her sister that dies, or if that husband is the same guy who was kind of a jerk to Sarah in ME1. It's like the writer wants to give her some drama and add to her character, but don't want to risk anything and in the end it came out bland and just wasted precious screen time designated to Ashley.

I wouldn't know. Seems that way. Reminds me of every woman my friends have married. And why I'm single.

Talking about her family is fine.  She talks about them in ME1 as well.  The thing is, she used to talk about other things too.  Stuff that seemed to make some players uncomfortable.  Such as race and religion and humanity's place in the galaxy.  Sadly, we can't have that kind of talk now.

Now Ash needs "sex appeal"  and be the butt of drunk jokes.

She strips down to nothing(as in the only person to do this), you jump on her, and she releases blue-asari biotic power all over you while you kiss her neck.
