Rumour: Windows 9 being prepped for 2015

Interesting quick article. It would explain why updates for Win 8 are not as often as previous Windows OS and with the "Even/Odd" curse being prevalent in Windows history I hope, if this is true, that they aren't doing Windows 9 just to get to an odd number.

If Win XP (SP3) and 7 could run your hardware drivers, they're still good operation systems to use.

Not that I am complaining about my current OS situation (got Win7 Home Premium with my PC which I am currently using and will upgrade my system to Win8.1 Pro, which I got for free this christmas, soon) but better is always ... well, better.

Windows 98 was ****, Windows XP was hated for years (like Windows 8) and Windows 7 is awfully slow.
In the same way MS Paint passed Photoshop I guess.SylvuisTheSwag wrote...

Windows 3.1 was good for business, I suppose, but as a gamer I did most of my gaming under DOS. It was during this time that 32-bit CPUs became popular and games started incorporating "DOS Extenders".
Windows 95 was different but, imo, an improvement, especially since I could now run games natively from the Desktop. Was playing "made for Windows" stuff like Diablo at the time.
Windows 98 improved on Windows 95 and I used it for a long time.
Skipped Windows ME; didn't offer anything I wanted.
Didn't get into Windows XP until the first service pack, and found it easy to revert the UI to a Windows 98 theme. Overall I don't recall too many things being different from a gaming point of view. The Program Install/Uninstall part of Control Panel still suffered from issues/bugs after a month or so of use.
Windows Vista was a bit of a PITA until the second service pack, and I quickly moved to Windows 7 when it came out.
Have been running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit since then and have no complaints. Boots lightning-quick from an SSD and I rarely have to wait on anything. Thanks to emulators and DOSBox I can still run all my favorite games (some from the 80s).
Bottom line, I guess your view of the various OS depends on how you used them. I'm a lifetime gamer so that's my primary experience. As for work, I've used Windows XP almost exclusively (even today). It's okay but I'm always happy to return home to my Win7 gaming/movie machine.
Skipping Win8 thanks to feedback from gaming buddies. Win 9 might be interesting if it indeed happens, but with the trend toward mobile computing it might merely improve on Win8 rather than return to the desktop systems of Win7 and previous.

Yeah, that image is not right at all. 3.1 was unusable crap. 3.11 was barely usable crap, Win 95 was great - brilliantly magnificent even, compared to 3.x, We wouldn't even be using Windows PCs today if it weren't for 95.
And, yeah, it was then 98SE that was great, not 98.
