Why pistol? ...because Talon. It staggers and applies ammo (for PD detonation) like a champ. And no, I wouldn't trade out the barrel for the melee mod...but that's just my opinion.
Edit: Shampoo is a

How is Talon better at applying these effects than SMG's?
It fires eight pellets at once, so it has 8x more chances to apply ammo with one shot,
The heavy melee is temperamental, and the big issue is that if it does not lock on it leaves you very, very vulnerable

Some weapons are also just better at priming. The valiant is at or near 100%, the falcon is definitely 100%, etc. SMG's on the other hand are not good at it.
IIRC, cyonan or an equivalent model cyborg did some digging for numbers to back this up. I might be wrong about this though.

My early thoughts, after playing three Bronze matches, are that melee seems not useful at all, unless I happen to be near the mob, and other mob/s happen to be shooting at me. Otherwise, I PD, PD, PD, BC, shoot with a gun, PD again, PD again... not very swordsman-like. Gonna try a Silver match now.
The light melee is for the DR utility and lulz, both of which are intensified on higher difficulty.
Heavy melee is fun once you figure out the targetting. If your target reticule is not red your HM will frequently put you past the mook and you'll geth flanked, elbowed, staggered, or worse.

I've forgotten to ask one other thing. Do bonuses from items cumulate? For example, will Assault Rifle Amp II cumulate with Warfighter II, giving me the effective number of 36% damage increase?
Yes. Almost all bonuses cumulate, while only a few are multiplicative. And remember that these are calculated from base values.
The Raider and Pirahna at lvl X (I believe) are among the highest DPS dealers in the game...... If you are able to hit your target. They do have a lot of spread and will benefit from characters with accuracy/stability powers like Marksman. I will almost always use Smart Choke on these weapons. Piranha will also benefit from RoF bonuses and on a character like the Geth Infiltrator with added bonuses from Proxy Mine, Tac Cloak and Hunter Mode, will lay waste to everything in sight.

I've read up on N7 Slayer (reminds me of "Slayers" - anyone?) on the ynternetz, and thought of few times I was watching them on killcam, and it seems heavy melee has its uses. Other than moving fast past the objects, you can butt-use mobs hiding behind cover. Generally, though, I feel a bit disappointed about that class. When I got him, I was hoping for a sword-equipped Cerb Vanguard, cutting and slashing through aliens with a space blade. What I get, judging by both people's opinions and my short experience with the class, is a weak version of Phantom. Not saying that I suddenly became a master of ME3 and judge Slayer a bad, useless class, but, gosh, what is the point of making a swordsman if his best skill is a palm laser. I'll do my best to try and find/make up a viable gold Biotic Slash build. Yarr!

The N7 Shadow makes for a better Swordplay character than the Slayer, and she has a teleport ability. Maybe the RNG Gods will smile upon you once more.

The palm cannon was originally going to be on the shadow, and you can still see it on her model, but got replaced by electric slash and put on the slayer, despite it not being on his modelMike-o wrote...

Plus, of you really wanna put that sword to some use... You can charge a Cerberus turret, light melee and get out of there with full shields. It's pretty awesome XD

I could count the times I actually killed something with Slayer melee on the fingers of one hand.
Shadow is the swordsman character character here
Slayer is beast with PD and charge, but as guys above me said, hosting is pretty essential. He´s one of the most lag dependant characters.

The key to the kingdom: kalence.drupalgardens.com/me3-builder#55!3922535!!22J23312!5BFACS
This is a Gold setup from what you seem to have at your disposal in your manifest.
The GI is pretty much hailed as the king of damage output in these parts,
The Hunter Mode overlay can take some getting used to, and he might be a little flimsy before you get used to playing the character......., but his damage output is ridiculous. If you haven't tested him out yet maybe do so in Silver first. If you do, you could try without cyclonics, lvl1 shotgun amp (or empty), Gear could be replaced with Shield or shield recharge boosting equipment.
Bring AP-, Drill rounds (lvl 1 stuff should be sufficient), or use the Shredder mod. If you use the Shredder mod I would put on lvl 1 incindy- or warp rounds if you can spare the equipment .
Cloak, Proxy Mine, shoot.
Proxy Mine can be a little tricky at times so if you are having problems hitting the enemy, aim for the feet, nearby wall, counter or such. It will trigger through walls.
For Ravagers: Cloak, shoot, Proxy Mine, shoot.
The windom for cloak to break is long enough for you to fire of a shot and then deploy the mine before you get locked out by the cooldown. This tactic will take out most of the swarmers. Swarmers and Ravager goo is the numero Uno GI killer.
*Edit: Proxy also detonates Tech Bursts.
When you get an upgrade or two on your Shotgun High Velocity Barrel, use this as it will replace the High Caliber Barrel and Shredder mod with the use of one mod slot.

Since I can't keep on playing only few chars, and have to try new ones (in opposition to what I said few days ago) - any tips on how to play Asari Justicar? So far, I'm using a Reave/barrier thingy build, though barrier seems to be a very situational skill, useful, but only occasionally. At least when used in defence. What're your ideas? I'm wondering about Krogan Vanguard, too. Right now I'm skipping Carnage, and using my kroggy to charge and shotgun mooks' faces off. It is quite funny, but perhaps there are funnier ways of using him?
A lot of people will use the Justicar with the Defensive buble, cast Reave and use a high damage dealing weapon from a distance with 0 points in pull. Works fine but I find it boring.
If you want to really have fun with her you need to get up close and personal. Spec the buble for offense, everything that walks in will be primed but it can also detonate primed targets (and it will still provide some DR). This however requires you to run up to primed targets and deploy the buble so it hits them. Primed targets will not detonate by simply walking into an allready deployed buble.
See target, stagger/prime with Reave, run up and deploy buble for BE, if not dead throw Reave for a new BE. It's a hectic but fun playstyle.
Keep cooldowns reasonably low as this requires power spam.
Works with 0,3,4 or 6 ranks in Pull, take the points from the passives and/or fitness.
Pull only works on plain health, but the cooldown is really fast so a Pull/Reave combo is quick to pull off.
If you run the Acolyte you'll easily deal with shields/barriers and make Pull more useful.

Nice to see you're still around, Hellman. I thought you had been swallowed into the BF4 abyss.

Still alive, but too much work last couple of weeks so haven't been getting in to BF either.
Vyper convinced me to pre-order Destiny as well....... I'm weak...... I know.
By the way, your sig seem to be messed up..... You should fix that
