Who is the most underappreciated romance option in your opinion?

For me, it's Cortez. Not a lot of people pick him, and I won't lie and say that I did, but he's this little gem that's so often overlooked. Sure, Garrus has his family on Palaven, Ash has her family, James is haunted by his squad, and on and on, but I just felt Cortez's story had so much more weight. His scenes were well done and really touching, even if he was relatively unremarkable as a character. I go through his friendship storyline on every playthrough now.

So, who is yours? Feel free to pick from all three games.

Thane... It's beautiful and tragic all at once. It's really, really well done.

For maleshep. I don't know, they're all pretty good. But Tali is unique. Underrated? I don't know.

But thane for Femshep. When I saw the citadel DLC I got a little teary eyed and I didn't even have a femshep romance with thane. Mine are all Liara and one with Garrus. Thane's Romance is so, so well done. And Hale's voice acting, like always, was spot on.

Jacob is just...disappointing. Seriously, you'd dump a hot Shepard for some ugly chick you met just right after departing from the crew? Whatever! And it wasn't even a year!

Thane arguably, if only because his romance ends in a way different from all the others and probably carries the most emotional impact and weight, but all everyone focuses on is how their husbando died trying to do something good, which he would have anyway if his journal entries and medical history had any indication.

Going stag the entire trilogy. Except for Kelly, of course.

If I ever rolled a Female Shepard, I would go with Thane. Even though I always romanced Kaidan as a guy, I watched Thane's romance vids on YT and I was awestruck on how good it was. The Citadel DLC scenes and the funeral were so well done, and had a very strong impact.

I completelty forgot that was an option. Don't you get auto-paired with liara if you try to stag ME1/ME3?

The hilarious part about Cortez' romance, is that in most of the endings, you've just replaced his husband whom was killed by the Collectors, and become his boyfriend whom was killed by the Reapers.

Im not sure that any of them are underrated to be honest. The ones that are at least decent have rabid fanbases. I don't really see any of them as being overlooked.

The ones that don't have rabid fanbases, like Jacob or Diana Allers, truly do suck.

I really aprecciated having Cortez as the Kodiak driver, his dialogue and character arc was frankly well written.

The only thing that I complain is about the whole unbelievable "I love you. But I know you. Don't make me an anchor, promise me Steve..." message. Kinda terrible.

I think James is probably an overlooked romance option. But oh well.

I actually really liked Jacob's romance in ME2 so I'm going to go with that -- don't knock it before you try it. Unfortunately, once FemShep goes black she does have to go back which is unfortunate, but I guess it sets up the romance with Traynor (all men are pigs! and all that jazz).

CougarShep settles that problem in Citadel.

Traynor: "I'm just into girls Shepard, but don't mind me while I prance around your hot tub in my underwear..."

Traynor plays more games than Milton Bradley.

You had a lot of love interests + ME2 possibilities in ME3, but most or some are pretty bad and often feel very distant or boring.

Weren't you the poster who wanted some quad action with Wrex?

Apologies if I've got you confused for someone else.

I know. But it feels extremely awkward and not properly well done. Wasted potential.

Actually, if you poke in the games files, you can find that  James was going to be an LI from day one. But, it was cut during mid-development.

FemShep was going to refer her LI status about Jimmy when Kelly asks her if she's with someone, where she would reply:

"I've got James"

I feel that Miranda isn't given enough credit for having emotional depth. Yes, it's not as out there and obvious, but I feel that she does grow as a person and has become stereotyped as the hot piece of ass. Also, Giana/Shiala...Dat cheek kiss and arm touch tho ;)

I think that's actually why I liked it. Granted it wouldn't have worked in the main game because FemShep becomes a total lech to get it done, but I enjoyed the humor.

I don't even like Jacob and I know that he has to easily get the award for most overlooked.

Most underappreciated, though? Probably Ashley. The ME2/3 LIs were all fairly well represented in their own and future games, Jacob aside (and yes, Thanemancers, that includes you - what did you honestly think was going to be the outcome?). Liara, of course, is the writer's pet so she didn't lack for screentime and development at all. Kaidan has his own fangirl legion and the added benefit of becoming a poster boy for M/M romance as well with ME3.

But Ash? She was almost totally absent in ME2 and was absent for half of ME3. Even when she was in the squad, there were hardly any conversations with her. Since she remained an MSHep LI only, there was no easy gain in appreciation like any potential s/s LI gets on these forums. And, of course, she had a rather vocal hatedom anyways from back in the ME1 days (which we won't get into because those people aren't worth dignifying with discussion).

Add in her model changes that nobody liked and the departure of her original writer, and she easily gets most under appreciated, and honestly isn't too far behind Jacob for being overlooked.

Depends. But I still want Wrex nonetheless. I'm basically saying that the writing for romances and certain romance options felt boring and distant. Take Miranda's for example. But overall, ME2 squadmate romances are distant besides Tali and Garrus, but Tali appears within 1/2 of the game already, and so, she doesn't get as much time as Garrus. Kaidan is only good with femshep since they have more scenes with one another. A Kaidan romance with Male Shepard stilll feels distant as the relationship isn't really mentioned between the two unless it's within a situation within the game where it is a special scene between Shepard and his/her desired L.I.

Any romance is better than Allers and Jacob! Samara's romance is unofficial, but it's a very good romance if you have the Citadel DLC in which Bioware actually acknowledges the unofficial never locking romance. It's a lonely romance overall though.

Definitely Morinth. I mean sure, a lot of people like to hate on her because there may have been that one point in Mass Effect 2 where she murders Shepard, but that's not important. With ME3's ending in mind, she was probably doing Shep a favor. I mean I just don't see why people can't see past her being a serial killer and all. I mean sure, that's bad, but she's an Ardat-Yakshi, she can't help it. Samara murders people all the time, and she doesn't get any hate for it. I mean for all her faults, at least Morinth doesn't usually kill important people. Considering the fact that Samara tried to murder Nihlus just for doing his job, I think she's way more dangerous to the galaxy as a whole. The people who picked Samara done goofed. Anyway, Morinth is the greatest LI in the game because she saves Shepard from having to deal with the star boy and she does it by giving him an orgasm so hard that he dies of a brain hemorrhage. I can't believe Samara tried to kill Nihlus, he was my bro. Why can't she be cool like Morinth. She also has good taste in music, I love music with dark pulses and violent rhythms. I'd do hallex with her any day. Morinth is so pretty.

Not to mention she likes the Elcor artist Forta, what's not to love!?
