Elven mages should rule. We've seen the disastrous results of an anthropocentric magocracy.

Mages should rule. Might makes right, and mages have all the might.

Mages should work out, first. Have you seen how scrawny they are? Except Orsino, that dude should have been a basketball player.

Ahem. My male mage Hawke was pretty ripped.

My Warden mage has a six-pack you know. Besides he is an arcane warrior who is a lot more tankier than most if not all warriors.Image IPB

That's actually a shirt painted like a six pack.

So that contributing members of society do not go to waste as slaves or corpses at the hands of beings far ore powerful than they could ever hope to be (blood-mages, abominations). Not to mention both things being terrible tragedies.

They're only tragedies if you view the non-mages as beings worthy of concern.

Should the mages do that?

I never claimed that it would stop the people wanting to seize power. The poster asked why mages shouldn't rule, and I answered. Mages could lead effectively, but the OP seemed to suggest that more power=greater leadership.

That makes sense.

You were answering the question from the piont of view of the people being ruled.

I was looking at the question from the point of view of the mages.

I'm sure if someone could use magic that would make them feel entitled to rule over people.

This question will be moot when the Qunari conquer Thedas, as the saarebas will all be leashed for their own good.

If I had magic I would feel like I could be free from all restrictions and morals that mundanes have.
Couldn't care less about rulling others though, their lives wouldn't be my concern.

If we were talking about, say, The Elder Scrolls, I'd give my full support. TES mages have virtually no downside. But DA mages can be possessed by demons and things like that. I don't think mages should be forbidden from holding seats of power, but I'd rather not run the risk of a bunch of demons ruling Thedas.

Why do people seem to forget that Tevinter ruled whole of Thedas for millenias and did just fine? All that chantry bull is just plain lie. Mages can rule just fine, just like any other people in Thedas.

Well - I'm glad for this thread.

Makes me feel solidified in my stance against the rebels.

As much as we'd like to pretend that mages have power, the REAL powers are cats. A great mage can dispatch entire armies with arcane power, but a cute kitten can glue the entire world to Youtube with video after video of liquid eyes, adorable antics, and jumping into boxes.

REAL power, not contained in calling on the forces of nature or worse, but in tricking half the world into feeding them, opening doors, and surrendering warm spots on the couch.

Cats ARE Power. Why should they accept being treated as less than the gods they were once worshiped as? The Egyptians had it right, all peoples should live in service to cats. Dwarfs too. And elves. And everyone else. All must pay homage to our feline overlords.

This thread is probably going to end up having all pro mages, and the anti mages starting another thread war and all the people who don't care are stuck between the factions, and others will take advantage of the situation and become mercenaries.

And if anyone wants an extra soldier to join one of your sides feel free to look me up.

Why not just let all the Mages rule in one city with a Templar siege engine ready to destroy it if Mages prove they lack the ability to be citizens of Thedas. Mages wish not to be locked in a tower so why not let them just have a city to rule instead.

Of course this point is moot when the Qunari seize control of Thedas, the Mages will have to relay on the mercy of the Qun.

Why anyone would need anything besides their own opinion to solidify theit stance is beyond me.

Because if you draw conclusions based on opinions instead of facts, then you sholdn't be in any posistion where your opinion matters to begin with.

If they would ever want to rule in peace they should.

They'll need a government and I am certain they'd end up needing mundanes to staff large portions of it, no one holds power for long by screwing over everyone but themselves, you have to give them some kind of incentive, something to make their rule desirable or at least tolerable.

No, not on opinions, on opinion, there's a difference. Opinions don't matter, opinion does.

If that were the case Tevinter would be detroying the Qunari but lo and behold it's a stalemate.
