Dragon Age reflects a period covering several hundred years. In some parts of that time cosmetics were available. There were lead-based powders and heavy-metal based rouges (as opposed to rogues, who are more into classical) as well as kohl. False hair was used extensively in some time periods as well.
Orlesian men are known to use cosmetics as well as women, so I'd say makeup for men wouldn't be a stretch. The look would be more subtle for a man wanting to blend with Orlesian society. For a guy who wants to go Braveheart there ought to be makeup options there too.

There are some games like the sims or saints row where you can change the style, color, and opacity of each element of makeup: eyeshadow, liner, blush, and lipstick or gloss. That's what I want for both male and female characters. Not only can your female character have colors and shades that suit her, but your male or natural female can have shadow/liner/blush of a shade that matches their skintone but is a bit darker to give depth and life to the face. Makeup on a man doesn't have to look like makeup.

I tend to remove all makeup from my character. why is it the poor draged through a hedge backwards disheveled Dragonborn prisoner about to be executed in her pee poo and sweat staned rags has perfect Blusher, masscara, eyeshadow and lippy?

Did anyone use makeup at all in those (medieval) days? Is there any real reason why Dragon Age should have makeup?

People have been wearing makeup for hundreds of years (even thousands, if you want to go back as far as ancient Egypt). At some points in history it was more popular than others, but that really doesn't matter.

As for Dragon Age's setting being "medieval", I always find it kind of silly when people say that. Sure, the setting isn't modern, but it's set in a fantasy world. If you want to argue that makeup shouldn't be included because the game shares similarities with medieval Europe, than by that same reasoning, homosexuality should also not be included, or at least frowned upon and widely unaccepted, as well as a woman protagonist, women as soldiers and scholars and in positions of power. We could even go as far as remove the mage class and scrap the whole story, since almost none of these things happened in medieval Europe.

The bottom line is that this is a video game, and that essentially, the sky is the limit. You can include makeup because yes, it's unrealistic, but it's a fantasy video game, so therefore asking for severe realism is kind of pointless.

Edit: On topic, I would love, love, LOVE  better makeup options, including eyeliner as well as better colors. The makeup in the Dragon Age games thus far has looked like it's been designed by someone who has never applied makeup in their whole lives. I am also heavily advocating for piercings (at least ear piercings) because, why not?

Full Freedom? Don't make me laugh. Can't even change how many toes my character has in any of those games. Not even the first one, before they started gutting customizations in the sequels.

Also, the Snarky British PC voice is the same guy who does the Geico Gecko commercials. Now that you know that, you'll never unhear it.
