Back when that book first released and fans panned it for being a mess that couldn't even get details of previously established characters or lore correct, Bioware (or was it the publisher?) issued an apology of sorts and promised a rewrite. It appears that plan for a rewrite, if it was ever truly in the works, is no longer on the table. Even so, does the acknowledgement  that the book was filled with errors render its official status as non-canon? Is it the Mass Effect equivalent of the Star Wars Holiday Special?

If it ain't by Drew K I don't consider it part of the MEU...... That includes ME3.

Yeah. I said it. Deal with it.

BioWare doesn't care about Deception. BioWare lies all the time, this is no different.

It's the truth.

Lets just hope Walters can figure out his own lore for the next game, lol.

No way..... :o:o

You know, Walters is worse than I thought. If the series ever needed a real writer or Drew K. back at the helm. The time is now.

My God.

Every Mass Effect fan should be scared of Walters and what he's doing to the MEU.

Everyone.

I admittedly haven't been following the comics. Just how heavily does Maya Brooks (that chick that at least half of the player base casually gunned down in Citadel DLC to hear squadmate one-liners) feature in the ME extended universe all of a sudden?

He's obviously going to mercilessly murder her. With the knife. I mean actually murder. Get your heads out of the gutter, guys.

She joins Cerberus and Forrest gumps across the galaxy

She meets Wrex while hunting down Fist, poses as Ashley's debriefer after Eden Prime, not sure how she fits into Miranda and Jacob...

To be fair I don't think Walters had anything to do with Deception. It was written by William C. Dietz, a Sci Fi writer with no previous connection to Bioware or Mass Effect.

That isn't to say that Bioware isn't to blame for Deception however, just that after ME3 Walters is all too often unfairly blamed for things he had little or nothing to do with it.

I also think Drew is highly overrated.

Dietz was already well known for screwing up a Halo book

You are right. Dietz was a freelancer that was hired by BioWare/EA. The dude has no connection to the series prior to Deception.

You get what you pay for BioWare.

He didn't screw anything up really, his book was just pointless since it was just a retelling of what happened in HaloCE.
Now Karen traviss on the other hand...................... ugh. She should just stay away from sci fi and defo stay away from Halo.

Wow. Really? It sucked. Its portrayel of Master Chief was terrible and compared to Nylund's novels it was such b-team.

That's the one he wrote.

I like Eric Nylund's books better (directly before and after The Flood), and a few short stories in a Collection.

Though halo lore has gone to sh*t in the past few years so I'm not caught up.

How does that even happen?

Didn't Bungie or Bioware assign an employee to make sure an outside writer was up to snuff on the source material?

He didn't screw with lore, he just didn't write a book on par with what came before

Also it got a bit boring, it slavishly retold the events of the first game, and that drug it down.

Maybe I lack a base of reference then... never read any of the other books and I'm years behind the Halo fandom.

Ignore Karen Traviss like the plague, The Cole Protocol Book, and the Forerunner series and its mostly solid entertaining, if not high quality literature.

Good for an airplane flight, train ride, etc...
